Free delivery service
The library participates in a free delivery service with other libraries in New York City. If you have books or journals to send to another medical library, call us to see if that library is on the free delivery route. This is especially valuable when you are doing a rotation at another hospital and need to return the items you borrowed. This service is available to all Maimonides employees, attending physicians, and rotating students.
Interlibrary loan service
If the library does not have the item you need, every effort will be made to obtain it for you through the library’s memberships in professional organizations. These memberships include the National Network of Libraries of Medicine and other local, state, and regional consortiums where we have access to the holdings of more than 5,000 libraries nationally and internationally.
An interlibrary loan request form is available in the library or on our Intranet website.
Mediated searching
Mediated or librarian-performed searches are available for those who do not wish to perform their own searching. These searches, tailored to your specific information needs, are done by appointment. It is recommended you be present so we may receive feedback, ask questions, and make modifications. The librarian will formulate a customized search strategy, determine the best database or resource to meet your needs, provide instruction and make further recommendations. Assistance with evidence-based medicine searching is also available.
Our library staff will assist you in your search for healthcare information—from finding a quick fact to providing instruction on the best use of informational tools relevant to your research, we’re here to help
