Maimonides—on the forefront of innovating medical education
Maimonides Medical Center has a tradition of excellence in patient care, medical training, and innovative research. We are one of the largest independent teaching hospitals in the United States, committed to providing ongoing education to our medical students and residents, as well as physicians and healthcare professionals. Continuing Medical Education (CME) activities include conferences, symposia, lectures, grand rounds, workshops, internships, and other training. These opportunities for continuing professional development are offered on the Maimonides campus and other convenient locations.
The purpose of the CME program is the initiation and facilitation of CME activities for physicians and other medical care providers. The CME Committee ensures the program’s goals are consistent with the hospital’s institutional mission: to deliver the highest quality patient care, provide quality education to healthcare professionals, and to attain the highest standards for CME.
The CME experience
Our CME program focuses on clinical aspects of medicine, including primary care, specialty, and subspecialty topics. Activities offer information on advances in treatment, changing concepts in patient diagnosis and management, developments in clinical techniques, pharmacological agents, and ethical, cultural, and diversity issues in healthcare.
The CME activities also include Regularly Scheduled Series (RSSs), lectures, and symposia. We strive to provide a wide range of CME opportunities to appeal to a broad range of specialties.
The Maimonides Center for Clinical Simulation serves as a unified interdisciplinary training center that addresses the realities of practice and patient care. The technology includes high fidelity robotic mannequins and a variety of task trainers to improve patient safety through practicing in an immersive and risk-free environment. Our simulation scenarios cater to healthcare staff in training, as well as to seasoned professionals for continued skills development and multidisciplinary collaborative team training.
The CME Committee
The CME Committee is comprised of physicians and healthcare providers from across the healthcare spectrum in the hospital. The Committee meets 5 times per year with the primary goal of reviewing all proposed CME activities to ensure the content of each activity is appropriate for a physician audience and is based upon the best available evidence. The Committee reviews evaluations and closely monitors all activities to ensure they are in strict compliance with the applicable Medical Society of the State of New York/Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (MSSNY/ACCME) regulations.
Our committee members:
- CME Committee Chair – Regina Tarkovsky, MD
- Administrative Director of Medical Education – Helen Holmes
- CME/UME Education Coordinator – Tina Marshall

Enhancing your medical knowledge
It is expected that participants will enhance their medical knowledge or acquire new skills, thereby improving their performance in clinical practice. Outcomes are measured at the conclusion of each activity via evaluation tools, which are utilized and customized to the learning objectives. Feedback obtained from evaluations is used to plan and improve the curriculum. We continually evaluate the impact our programs have on physician and institutional performance and will focus our efforts to ensure we meet our educational objectives.
