We are committed to advancing pediatric care through research and clinical trials
The Maimonides Children’s Hospital has the rare opportunity to care for a culturally diverse community. Brooklyn is home to 2.8 million people, nearly half of whom were born in a foreign country. Different ethnicities are predisposed to different health conditions, and our research can assist in providing improved care for children and their families. With the help of our generous donors, we can keep pushing the envelope to provide the best pediatric medical services possible. And as Brooklyn’s only children’s hospital, we are able to serve as a valuable resource to the medical community.
Our current research
We’re constantly working to improve the lives of children everywhere by conducting groundbreaking research in many areas, including:
- Childhood obesity – We are investigating the role of lifestyle choices and genetic factors in the development of obesity.
- Kidney and brain diseases – Our researchers are looking for new ways to diagnose and treat a variety of kidney and brain disorders.
- Birth outcomes – Our hospital has one of the busiest obstetrical services in Brooklyn. We are investigating new ways to improve outcomes for mothers and babies.
- Gastrointestinal ailments – Our team is exploring novel treatments for common childhood gastrointestinal disorders, such as constipation and inflammatory bowel disease.
In addition, studies in hematology, endocrinology, pediatric cardiology, nephrology, neurology, and pulmonary medicine are also ongoing.
We also assess various approaches to improving the quality and cost-efficiency of pediatric care. Cost should never be a barrier to receiving the best possible care, and our research is helping to make that a reality. The Maimonides Research and Development Foundation offers the initial finances required for preliminary data gathering in order to support and propel future funding opportunities.
The role of research in pediatric medical services
Research is essential to the advancement of pediatric medicine. At Maimonides Children’s Hospital, we are investigating new ways to diagnose and treat a variety of childhood illnesses. Our research helps us to provide the best possible care for our patients and their families.
Clinical trials are an important part of our research program. These trials allow us to test new treatments and procedures in a controlled setting, and our hospital is one of the leading sites for pediatric clinical trials in Brooklyn.
