The pediatric trauma center—treating life-threatening injuries and illnesses

Maimonides is Brooklyn’s only pediatric trauma center. This certifies that we are staffed and equipped to treat life-threatening injuries that result from serious incidents like falls and car accidents. The New York State Department of Health recognizes only a select few hospitals for dedication to meeting the standards of care established by the American College of Surgeons—Committee on Trauma.

Children have different reactions to injuries than adults, so they must be seen by specialized experts when they have suffered a trauma of any kind. Pediatric emergency care is provided in the fully-accredited Pediatric Emergency Room at Maimonides, a division of both Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics.

Our pediatric hospitalists give your child coordinated and individualized care

We understand that admitting a child to the hospital can be frightening for both of you. To help alleviate those fears and give you and your child individualized attention, we have a full-time Pediatric Hospitalist Program. A pediatric hospitalist is a board-certified pediatrician who specializes in coordinating the care of children admitted to the hospital.

Maimonides Children’s Hospital is one of the few hospitals in the area that has this program. Our hospitalist works with families, nursing staff, and other doctors to coordinate the hospital stay and treatment for pediatric patients. For children under the care of a Maimonides’ pediatrician, the hospitalist works closely with the admitting physician. Children admitted to the hospital without a pediatrician are under the direct care of our hospitalist.

Our pediatric hospitalist evaluates and delivers child-friendly care in an environment created just for children
