A safe, judgment-free space for teens and young adults ages 10 to 21

The teen years and young adulthood bring a lot of change—physically, emotionally, and socially. Some of those changes come with health questions that go beyond the scope of a routine pediatric visit. That is where adolescent medicine comes in.

At Maimonides, our adolescent medicine team works alongside your existing care team to address the complex concerns that come with growing up, and to make sure every patient feels heard and respected.

What is adolescent medicine?

Adolescent medicine is a specialty built around one idea: A teenager’s health needs are not the same as a young child’s—and they deserve care designed with that in mind.

Our physician specializes in reproductive and sexual health, menstrual management, behavioral and psychosocial health, and adolescent risk screening and guidance.

Why choose adolescent medicine at Maimonides?

Whether you are a parent looking for the right care for your teen or a young adult ready to manage your own health, here is what you can count on:

  • Care that covers a lot of ground: Many teen health concerns touch more than one area of medicine. Our team can often address those concerns together, so you aren’t bouncing between offices trying to figure out who handles what.
  • Specialists with focused training: Adolescent medicine is a fellowship-trained subspecialty. Our providers have gone beyond general pediatrics to focus specifically on the issues teens and young adults face.
  • A strength-based approach: We meet teens where they are. Our goal is not just to treat a condition—it’s to help young patients build confidence, develop healthy habits, and feel in charge of their own well-being.
  • Your privacy is protected: Confidentiality matters here. We provide care in a setting that respects your privacy and is designed to earn your trust.
  • Mental health support, built right in: A psychologist is part of our practice. If emotional and mental health support would help, it is easy to access—no separate referral, no extra steps.

Who we serve

We see patients ages 10 to 21. That includes pre-teens just entering puberty, high schoolers navigating new health questions, and young adults who still need specialized care as they move into adulthood.

Parents and caregivers are welcome and encouraged to be involved, especially for younger patients. As teens get older, we also support their growing need to manage their own health and speak for themselves. We work closely with your teen’s pediatrician or primary care provider. Think of us as an extension of their care team, not a replacement for it.

Conditions and services we offer

If something feels off, or if your teen has questions they’re not sure who to ask, we’re the right team. We treat a wide range of concerns and for some of those, we may also bring in other specialists, like a hematologist for heavy periods linked to anemia, or a gastroenterologist when an eating disorder needs further evaluation. We coordinate care so you don’t have to.

  • Eating disorders: We treat anorexia, bulimia, avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), and other eating disorders.
  • Emotional and social challenges: We can address school avoidance, family stress, mild anxiety, and depression. We take these concerns seriously here.
  • Menstrual and reproductive health: We treat heavy, painful, or irregular periods and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), as well as provide contraceptive care—including pills, patch, ring, shot, implant, and intrauterine device (IUD).
  • Relationships, safety, and consent: We offer support for teens navigating questions about healthy relationships, boundaries, consent, and safety.
  • Sexual health: We provide STI testing and treatment and access to PrEP for HIV prevention. We offer sexual health education in a supportive, judgment-free setting.
  • Skin concerns: Acne is one of the most common reasons teens come to see us, and one of the most treatable.
  • Substance use: We can address concerns about alcohol, cannabis, vaping, nicotine, or other substances, including honest, non-judgmental conversations about harm reduction.

Mental health support, built into your care

The teen years can be hard, and health challenges can make them harder. That is why our practice includes a dedicated psychologist who works directly with adolescent medicine patients.

If your teen is struggling emotionally, or if mental health feels like part of the picture, support is right here—no separate referral, no extra logistics.

Our team uses mindfulness-based strategies to help teens build resilience and a stronger sense of who they are. We help young patients work through school stress, family challenges, social pressure, and the emotional weight that can come with managing a health condition at this age.

What to expect at your visit

Visits here feel different from a standard checkup. The pace is unhurried, the conversation is honest, and the focus is on your teen. At the first appointment, your care team will:

  • Go over your health history and any current concerns
  • Ask about daily life, your support system, and what matters most to you
  • Talk through your goals and any questions you have
  • Connect with your pediatrician or primary care provider as needed
  • Create a plan for follow-up and next steps

Confidentiality is central to every visit. Teens can expect a space where they can speak openly and get honest answers.
