Providing the strength to move forward

Being able to perform daily activities can sometimes be the most painful thing to accomplish. At Maimonides, we offer both inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services to help you recover from an injury or illness. Our approach to evaluation, service, treatment, and education reflects the hospital’s overall specialization in heart, stroke, orthopedics (especially joint replacement and lower back pain), surgery, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, cancer, geriatrics, and pediatrics.

A specialized rehabilitation team supports patients’ quality of life by preventing disability and improving independence through a multidisciplinary approach, which includes physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech/language therapy. Overall goals of rehab therapy are provided to assist the patient in becoming self-sufficient in as timely a period as possible.

The main goal is restoring normal function

Goals may include any, or all, of the following:

  • Balance and gait retraining
  • Improvement in the ability to perform activities of daily living (use of wheelchairs, walkers, crutches and canes, training in the use of splints, support braces or orthoses, and artificial limbs, prostheses)
  • Improving strength and endurance
  • Increasing mobility and improving range of motion
  • Maintenance of a good quality of life
  • Optimizing physical abilities
  • Reducing the level of impairment
  • Reduction of pain

Evaluating and treating conditions

Though most service is initiated by the patient’s main physician, all health care providers initially evaluate the patient and assist in the development of a personalized treatment and care plan. Most of the evaluation and treatment occur post-operatively, on a daily basis during the patient’s hospitalization.

We treat a variety of conditions
