Welcome to the Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB/GYN) Fellowship

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maimonides is proud to serve the diverse population of Brooklyn. Our patients come from all over the city as well as all over the world. We have one of the busiest labor floors in the state of New York, with over 8,000 deliveries per year.

The department created 2 fellowships falling under the OB/GYN fellowship:

  • Maternal-Fetal Medicine Fellowship
  • Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship

Our graduates have gone on to careers in all the OB/GYN subspecialties, as well as general academic and private practices

Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) Fellowship

The Department of OB/GYN at Maimonides Medical Center is home to Brooklyn’s first and only ACGME-accredited MFM Fellowship. In addition to the vast patient diversity and volume not commonly found elsewhere, Maimonides sees the highest number of deliveries in New York State (over 8,500 per year) and performs more than 55,000 ultrasound procedures annually. Therefore, both residents and fellows are exposed to a wide variety of both common and uncommon diagnoses in inpatient and ambulatory settings. The fellows’ advanced skills enhance the teaching and support for the residents, making the MFM Fellowship an integral part of OB/GYN residency educational training.

Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship

Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Fellowship is the most competitive fellowship in OB/GYN, and here at Maimonides, it has grown under the leadership of Drs. Bral, Herzog, Sandoval, Saraf, and Shamsnia. In addition to traditional laparoscopic surgery, trainees become proficient in robot-assisted surgery, open, and vaginal surgery. As a fellow at Maimonides Medical Center, you are a part of the team and become certified in robotic surgery. Faculty also assist in preparing residents for their Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery examination.

Medical Students from SUNY Downstate Medical University come to Maimonides for their 6-week OB/GYN clerkship

The future of medical care is you
