Brooklyn, New York, (May 22, 2023) — Maimonides Health is proud to announce the completion of its environmentally transformative labor and postpartum floor redecoration project. The newly redecorated Labor Floor and Mother-Baby Units were designed with the goal of creating a sanctuary that reflects the beauty of nature, helping to reduce stress and anxiety for patients and their families. Along with this environmental improvement, the lush landscapes and vibrant florals featured in the redesign were chosen to symbolize new beginnings, growth, and vitality, and to reflect the place of childbirth within the larger context of nature.

The addition of the artwork that helped transform the maternity unit into a calming space was made possible by the Maimonides Health Office of Patient Experience who was instrumental in obtaining a generous donation from The Foundation for Photo/Art in Hospitals, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to place artwork in hospitals to create an atmosphere of compassion.

“We are delighted to unveil the newly redecorated labor floor,” said Dr. Kavitha Ram, Associate Chair of Obstetrics at Maimonides Medical Center. “We listened to our patients’ feedback and worked closely with the Office of Patient Experience to create a space that meets their needs. We are confident that the nature theme and warm colors will help to create a pleasant and welcoming environment that enhances the labor and delivery experience for all patients.”

In addition to the redesigned labor floor, the Women’s Health Institute is also proud to announce a new leadership vision focused on improving patient outcomes and experiences.

“We are committed to providing the best possible care for our patients,” said Dr. Scott Chudnoff, Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maimonides. “Our new vision is focused on creating a patient-centered approach that prioritizes quality care and exceptional patient experiences. The newly redecorated labor floor is just one example of how we are working to enhance the care we provide to our patients.”

Maimonides Medical Center and Maimonides’ Women’s Health Institute are proud to have collaborated with patients, families, and the community to deliver this exciting new project. We look forward to continuing to work together to improve the health and wellbeing of our community through patient-centered initiatives.
