Brooklyn, NY, October 28, 2025 – Maimonides Medical Center received several top distinctions from Healthgrades as part of its 2026 Specialty Care Awards and Rankings. With four 2026 Specialty Excellence Awards, Maimonides ranks among the top 5% nationwide for orthopedic services and outpatient prostate care and among the top 10% nationwide for spine surgery and pulmonary services.
Maimonides was named one of Healthgrades America’s 50 Best Hospitals for Outpatient Prostate Care for 2 Years in a Row (2025–2026), one of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Orthopedic Surgery for 5 Years in a Row (2022–2026), and one of Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Spine Surgery for the first time.
In addition to these national honors, Maimonides was ranked No. 2 for orthopedic surgery and No. 5 for pulmonary care in New York State this year.
Maimonides was five-star rated for 10 services, including heart attack treatment, defibrillator procedures (2023–2026), hip fracture treatment (2019–2026), spinal fusion surgery, pneumonia treatment (2025–2026), peripheral vascular bypass (2025–2026), pancreatitis treatment, gallbladder removal surgery, respiratory failure treatment, and outpatient prostate care (2025–2026).
“We’re proud to be recognized for care quality across more than a dozen specialties, some for the first time,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “These honors reassure our patients that they don’t need to leave Brooklyn to have access to the best care available in the state and the country. As Brooklyn’s destination for specialty care, we are committed to delivering the highest caliber of care to the community we serve. This year, we’ve marked key service expansions to meet critical gaps in our healthcare landscape, and we are especially pleased to maintain previous quality indicators as well as make new strides in several specialty areas.”
Maimonides’ achievements are based solely on patient outcomes. Each year, Healthgrades evaluates risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to identify the top hospitals in key specialty areas. Through easy-to-understand, objective measures of hospital performance, Healthgrades empowers patients with the information they need to find a hospital that excels in their procedure or condition.
“We are thrilled to be recognized by Healthgrades for delivering exceptional patient care in multiple, key categories,” said John Marshall, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Maimonides Health. “We are grateful to our extraordinary team, whose excellence, passion, and dedication to patients allows Maimonides to continue bringing outstanding care to our community.”
As performance gaps persist between the nation’s highest- and lowest-achieving facilities, seeking care at a top program has never been more important. Healthgrades’ 2026 analysis revealed that if all hospitals, as a group, performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2022–2024 study period, on average, 230,466 lives could have been saved and 156,797 complications could have been avoided.*
“Healthgrades’ specialty awards identify the nation’s top-performing hospitals in key service areas, helping consumers find high-quality care tailored to their specific needs,” said Alana Biggers, MD, MPH, medical advisor at Healthgrades. “We’re proud to recognize Maimonides for its consistently superior outcomes in key service areas, including orthopedics, prostate care, pulmonary care, and more.”
