Renovated Lobby to Enhance Environment and Support Patients in Healing Journey

Brooklyn, NY, Nov. 12, 2025 – On Thursday, Nov. 6, Maimonides Health celebrated the unveiling of its newly renovated Maimonides Breast Cancer Center lobby and patient waiting area. The upgraded space has been redesigned to be welcoming for patients, with a more private, comfortable, and inviting waiting area that reflect the dignity and compassion as the tenets of care at the center.

The Maimonides Breast Cancer Center, founded in 2011, is Brooklyn’s only comprehensive breast center fully accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and the first Brooklyn-based program designated an American College of Radiology (ACR) Center of Excellence in multiple areas of breast cancer screening. It provides a full continuum of services—from screening and diagnostics to surgery, medical oncology, radiation therapy, and survivorship programs—all under one roof.

“The newly renovated Maimonides Breast Cancer Center in the Gilbert Rivera Pavilion marks our sustained leadership in women’s health and cancer care here in Brooklyn as well as the generosity of the Rivera family, who have brought greater hope, healing, and compassionate care to our community,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health.

“Our Breast Center has treated a total of 8,000 patients to date and seen more than 220,000 women over its first 10 years of operation,” said Patrick Borgen, MD, Chair, Surgery and Director of Maimonides Breast Cancer Center. “This renewed space represents a major investment in breast health and cancer care for our patients as we continue to set the standard for care here in Brooklyn.”

The new lobby is the latest milestone in the Maimonides’ mission to offer superb cancer care to all of Brooklyn. This step marks the latest in celebrating the 20th anniversary of the pioneering, award-winning Maimonides Cancer Center.
