Maimonides—offering bloodless treatment options
We understand that some patients prefer bloodless treatment options; that’s why we designed the Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program at Maimonides. Our Bloodless Medicine and Surgery Program is specifically designed to meet the health care needs of anyone who—for health, religious, or personal reasons—wishes to avoid the use of blood transfusions. Bloodless treatment avoids many potential risks and complications of transfusion therapy, providing treatment alternatives that often raise the standards of patient care.
Maimonides offers a full range of health care services, combined with the added advantage of bloodless medicine.
Our health care professionals are dedicated to providing you with the best bloodless surgery and medical care available for services like:
What is bloodless medicine and surgery?
Bloodless medicine and surgery, also known as blood management, is an organized program that minimizes the potential risks and complications of blood transfusions.
Blood management approaches include:
- Blood collection and re-infusion – During surgery, you are connected to a machine that “cleans” your blood and returns it to your body through a continuous circuit—patients can take comfort in knowing that blood collection and reinfusion is a safe blood transfusion method
- Build up – Doctors “build up” your blood before surgery with iron supplements and highly-effective medications that stimulate red blood cell production
- Self-donation – You can donate your own blood before surgery to eliminate the risk of an allergic reaction
