Recognized pediatric emergency care as special as the children we treat

Children have different medical needs than adults, so it’s important that children be seen by pediatric emergency experts when they are ill or suffer the trauma of any kind. Pediatric emergency care, including trauma care, is provided in the fully accredited Pediatric Emergency Room at Maimonides.

Maimonides Pediatric Trauma Center, the only 1 in Brooklyn, is recognized among select hospitals for its dedication to the highest standards of care. The coordinated pediatric emergency care is integrated with the full continuum of medical services we offer for infants, children, and teens at Maimonides Children’s Hospital —Brooklyn’s only accredited Children’s Hospital.

A continuum of advanced stroke care for superior patient outcomes

Our coordinated, multi-disciplinary stroke team is specially trained to identify the signs and symptoms of acute neurological events such as strokes. These dedicated specialists provide dedicated, around the clock stroke care to give every patient the very best chance of clinical improvement and survival. Patients may require more specialized and continued care delivered through the Jaffe Stroke Center at Maimonides. The Jaffe Stroke Center is renowned for excellence in stroke care; providing rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke using the most effective, evidence-based techniques. Recognized for 7 consecutive years by the American Stroke Association with its Get with the Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus and Target Stroke “Elite Plus” honor roll.

Compassionate psychiatric emergency care

The Emergency Department serves a range of needs, including psychiatric care. We have a dedicated and secure psychiatric emergency room staffed by psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, and social workers. Open 24 hours a day, this specialized facility provides privacy and confidentiality to psychiatric patients in need of emergency trauma therapy.

Support during your stay in the Emergency Department

Our Emergency Department proudly provides outstanding patient care with unwavering respect. Patient representatives are present around the clock to assist patients, families, and friends in need of support amenities. They are multi-lingual and help to facilitate communication. Interpreters are provided for non-English speaking patients and those who are hearing impaired.

Fast Track Program

Our Fast Track Program is available from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. for patients whose problems need treatment at the nearest emergency room, but which are not life-threatening. Fast Track patients—those with sore throats or a twisted ankle, for example—are treated by physician assistants or nurse practitioners under the supervision of an emergency medicine physician. They are usually seen and discharged more quickly than patients with more serious illnesses or injuries.
