Area Residents Now Have Easy 24/7 Access to Adult and Pediatric Emergency Care

Brooklyn, NY (July 23, 2023) – Maimonides Health has officially opened its new full-service Bay Ridge Emergency Department, expanding much-needed emergency care services to residents of Bay Ridge, Dyker Heights, Bensonhurst, and surrounding Brooklyn neighborhoods.

The Maimonides Bay Ridge Emergency Department, located at 9036 7th Ave. in Brooklyn, offers a state-of-the-art emergency department that offers 24/7 care to children and adults and is a destination for local EMS services.

“Our new emergency department is staffed by Maimonides board-certified emergency medicine physicians and offers comprehensive expertise for trauma and wound care, chest pain, and a spectrum of urgent and emergency health concerns,” says Ahmed Rashed, MD, Maimonides Health emergency medicine physician. “We also offer cardiac testing and cardiology services, and obstetric/gynecologic, orthopedic, and pediatric emergency care.”

Maimonides Bay Ridge Emergency Department features:

  • Pre-arrival online check-in so patients can self-schedule appointments
  • 22 treatment bays
  • CT Scan, Ultrasound, and Xray
  • Lab Testing
  • On-site ambulance for quick transfers when hospitalization or specialized care is needed.

The new 15,000-square-foot Emergency Department is located at the site of the former Victory Memorial Hospital and is the first one in Southern Brooklyn.

“Maimonides’ new Bay Ridge Emergency Department will have an immediate positive impact for thousands of Bay Ridge and Dyker Heights residents, says Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “By offering easy and fast access to trauma and advanced emergency care, this new service will save lives when time is of the essence. “For years, the local population has been underserved.  The new ED will allow patients to receive emergency care close to home, without leaving their local neighborhood,” he adds.

Gibbs also credits local community boards and legislators for their support in bringing emergency care to area residents. “Councilman Justin Brannan, Senator Andrew Gounardes, Congress member Nicole Malliotakis have been instrumental in making the Bay Ridge Emergency Department a reality with advocacy and legislative collaboration that extends back over the past several years, says Gibbs. “We want to extend our thanks to these legislators as well as the State of New York and the Department of Health for the significant State funding that is supporting this project, which represents an investment in Maimonides’ future and in the health of these communities.”

The opening of the Maimonides Bay Ridge Emergency Department is just the latest in a series of steps Maimonides Health took to expand and elevate emergency care across Brooklyn and into Staten Island.

Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital has dramatically expanded its emergency department capabilities in the past year alone. The hospital has added new technology as well as pediatric, orthopedic, obstetric/gynecologic, and behavioral health services to its emergency department, which is staffed by board-certified physicians.

“Maimonides Medical Center already operates the busiest trauma unit in the borough, and we have the largest fleet of hospital-based 911 ambulances,” says John Marshall, MD, chair of emergency medicine at Maimonides Health and a newly elected member of the American Board of Emergency Medicine Board of Directors. “We’re proud to bring emergency care and the best emergency medicine specialists to even more people in our surrounding communities.”
