The Super Rewards for Super Kids™ program helps pediatric patients with serious illness to cope with difficult medical procedures

BROOKLYN, NY (Feb. 14, 2024) — Maimonides Health and the Hope for Henry Foundation launched a new partnership on Wednesday to benefit hospitalized children receiving care at Maimonides Children’s Hospital.
This event marked the start of Hope for Henry’s “Super Rewards for Super Kids” program for Maimonides patients. This innovative program incentivizes children to adhere to critical medical procedures that can be frightening or uncomfortable, like MRIs, CT scans, vaccinations, and more. Applying principles of behavioral economics to children’s care, it reduces anxiety surrounding necessary diagnostic processes and treatments, limits the need for sedation, and allows for more efficient treatment to help patients and families heal and thrive.
This partnership between Maimonides and Hope for Henry is funded for $100,000 over one year by the Lids Foundation, the official charitable organization of the Lids Sports Group.

Hope for Henry’s Director of National Programs Kelly Beck and Program Manager Lea Failla visited Maimonides Children’s Hospital to meet with clinical leadership, provide training and materials for pediatric staff and Child Life Program specialists to implement the Super Rewards program, and distribute gifts donated by the Lids Foundation and Hope for Henry for pediatric patients.

“We are excited to begin incorporating Hope for Henry’s Super Rewards for Super Kids into our pediatric treatment model,” said Jeffrey Avner, MD, Chair of Pediatrics, Maimonides Health. “Our incredible Child Life Program specialists work tirelessly to support our patients and families through the fear that often comes with hospitalization, tests, and treatment. This is one more tool for our team to make the best experience possible for these kids, helping them through the stresses of tough moments in order to focus all their energy on getting better.”

“In partnership with Lids Foundation and Maimonides Medical Center, Hope for Henry aims to significantly enhance pediatric patient experiences, reduce sedation rates, and build coping skills through our Super Rewards for Super Kids™ program; we are excited to see how this partnership positively impacts the kids and families of the Brooklyn community,” said Carolyn Fung, Chief Operating Officer of Hope for Henry.
Maimonides’ Child Life, Creative Arts, and Education Program offers a variety of services to support the emotional, social, and developmental needs of children experiencing stress due to hospitalization, and help children, adolescents, and families cope with the difficulties of serious illness and inpatient treatment.
