A dedicated surgeon, oncologist, academic, and educator, Dr. Feinberg’s passion for patient-centered cancer care guides his leadership at Maimonides 

Brooklyn, NY, September 15, 2026 – Maimonides Health announced today that Joshua Feinberg, MD, FACS, has been named Chief of the Division of Breast Surgery, building upon a distinguished career of leadership and achievement in breast surgery.  

Dr. Feinberg’s commitment to patients at Maimonides Breast Center spans 5 years as a board-certified breast surgeon, breast surgical oncologist, and accomplished physician-scientist. His previous leadership as Director of Research for the Division of Breast Surgery reflects his longstanding dedication to advancing breast cancer treatment through scientific investigation, clinical trials, surgical innovation, and the adoption of emerging technologies. 

Currently, he also serves as Director of the Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship; as Program Director of the NAPBC Program at Maimonides; and as a faculty mentor for the SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University–Maimonides Health Summer Research Experience, supporting students and trainees shaping the future of medicine, surgery, and clinical research.  

Dr. Feinberg is passionate about advancing breast cancer care through clinical excellence, research, surgical innovation, education, and compassionate patient-centered care. As Chief of Breast Surgery, he will work closely with patients, clinical teams, organizational leadership, and community partners. He looks forward to building upon the Breast Center’s mission to increase access to high-quality cancer care for the Brooklyn community, especially by using precision medicine to create treatment and surveillance plans tailored to each patient’s specific needs and by using cutting-edge technology to safely de-escalate surgery and avoid unnecessary procedures and therapies. He will also prioritize increased patient access to therapeutic clinical trials and a renewed, strengthened collaboration with patient advocates in the community, helping to ensure that cancer care is available to Brooklyn patients in their home borough.

Dr. Feinberg’s journey at Maimonides began during his general surgery residency at Maimonides Medical Center, where he developed a strong foundation in complex surgical care. During his training, he completed a one-year research fellowship in Evidence-Based Practice and Patient Safety at the University of Oxford, where he was awarded a major program grant from the National Institute for Health Research. Following residency, he completed a Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at NYU Langone, further developing his expertise in the multidisciplinary management of breast disease and breast cancer. 

Dr. Feinberg has played an active role in enrolling patients in multicenter clinical trials and bringing innovative technologies and emerging treatments to breast cancer care. His research has been published in highly respected peer-reviewed journals, including The Lancet and Annals of Surgery. He has also served as a Guest Editor for JAMA Network Open and as an Associate Editor for BMJ Surgery, Interventions, & Health Technologies, contributing to the advancement and dissemination of surgical knowledge.  

His achievements and growing national recognition have been highlighted by his selection as a New York Super Doctors Rising Star in 2025 and 2026, recognizing his contributions and emerging leadership in the field of breast surgery. 

Outside of medicine, Dr. Feinberg enjoys golf and spending time with his wife, two daughters, and newborn son. 

Established in 2011 as Brooklyn’s first fully accredited breast cancer center, Maimonides Breast Center is ranked among the top 5% in the U.S. for breast cancer care. The Maimonides Erminia Rivera Breast Imaging Center of Excellence is the first and only Brooklyn-based program designated by the American College of Radiology as a Comprehensive Breast Imaging Center, reflecting excellence across multiple modalities. The center is also accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers and the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative and has earned the Commission on Cancer’s Outstanding Achievement Award.
