Brooklyn, NY, Feb. 3, 2026 – Mother Cabrini Health Foundation announced this week the recipients of its 2025 year-end grants, including $1.5 million in healthcare workforce funding to enable Maimonides Medical Center to strengthen its Nurse Residency Program and $400,000 in general funding for the Brooklyn Parenting Center.

Maimonides’ Nurse Residency Program provides opportunities for newly licensed graduate nurses to successfully transition from student to professional nurse, offered in collaboration with Vizient and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN). All new-hire nurses with less than one year of experience are automatically enrolled in the program upon joining Maimonides.

“This funding will allow for our Nurse Residency Program to be expanded and optimized with the use of the latest evidence-based resources and industry standards. The Nurse Residency program is a unique program with multiple benefits for professional development of early-career nurses. Maimonides will have greater ability to provide high-quality, patient-centered care for our patient population as we proactively invest in the education and growth of the next generation of nurses,” said Cody Legler, DNP, APRN, NP-BC, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Maimonides Health. “We are grateful for the support of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, and for their continuous recognition of the critical role that our nurses hold in our healthcare system at large.”

The funding will further strengthen Maimonides’ nursing workforce as the health system prepares to launch its Magnet journey. The American Nurses Credentialing Center Magnet Designation is the highest national designation for nursing.

The $400,000 awarded to the Brooklyn Parenting Center (BPC) will support Maimonides in furthering in-person care navigation, distributing additional baby safety goods, evaluating program impact, and continuing to build program sustainability.

Maimonides’ Brooklyn Parenting Center is an integrated, holistic, social, and emotional care program for families navigating pregnancy and parenting through early childhood, providing maternal-child health, psychosocial care, and essential baby safety material goods. Initially launched in September 2023, the BPC is an innovative, resilience-based program that integrates mental healthcare and support for unmet social and emotional needs into three formative touchpoints: prenatal obstetric care, inpatient postpartum and neonatal intensive care, and pediatric primary care. Through this three-pronged approach, we expand access to comprehensive social and emotional care for parents and children in a low-barrier setting where families are already accessing healthcare, effectively decreasing disparities in health and access to specialty health care. Previously, the Cabrini Foundation’s 2025 grant of $400,000 for the Brooklyn Parenting Center supported increased provider capacity and specialized training among the team of dedicated, onsite care managers in the hospital who screen patients and families for unmet social care needs like food and housing insecurity, and mental and physical health concerns.

“We are grateful to the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for the ability to expand the scope and reach of our services, more thoroughly evaluate our program and its impact, and continue to build toward program sustainability,” said Yonit Lax, MD, Brooklyn Parenting Center Program Director and Chief of Pediatric Community Health at Maimonides. “Our work through the Brooklyn Parenting Center has already positively impacted thousands of Brooklyn families, fostering healthy child development and maternal wellbeing. By gaining the tools needed to address critical determinants of health, families build resilience and a healthy foundation for children’s health outcomes.”

“We thank the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation for supporting a strong start to 2026 for our Nursing Program and Brooklyn Parenting Center,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “These two unique Maimonides programs are representative of our patient-centered approach to care across specialties, and we’re proud to have the Foundation’s partnership in expanding access to expert care for our community.”

“Our grantee partners are navigating an incredibly challenging landscape, and yet their commitment to serving their communities continues to deepen. These grants demonstrate our resolve to stand with them by addressing urgent needs today, while strengthening the systems and workforce that will support New Yorkers’ health for years to come.” said Msgr. Gregory Mustaciuolo, Chief Executive Officer of the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.

The award is one of 399 grants from the Cabrini Foundation awarded to healthcare and nonprofit organizations across New York state, totaling over $142 million. With these funds, the Foundation aims to strengthen essential systems of care while addressing the rising and immediate needs of vulnerable New Yorkers.
