Brooklyn, NY, April 10, 2026 – John Marshall, MD, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at Maimonides Health, and Donna Fitzmartin, RRT, MBA, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital, were honored by Crain’s New York Business in the publication’s 2026 Notable Leaders in Health Care list.
Crain’s spotlighted 80 honorees from around the New York City metro area as Notable Leaders, recognizing innovative leadership in health care, spanning care quality, performance outcomes and improvement, workforce development, digital health care, care accessibility, and more initiatives in the industry.
Dr. Marshall has served as Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) at Maimonides since 2024; before that, he held several progressive leadership roles at Maimonides since joining the organization in 2003, including 12 years as Chair of Emergency Medicine, during which he led efforts that resulted in Maimonides becoming the only certified Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center in Brooklyn, and grew EMS services into the largest hospital-based, 911-participating ambulance service in New York City. As CMO, he directs clinical operations, physician practice management, and strategic integration across inpatient and outpatient settings. Most recently, Marshall successfully built consensus among medical staff and health system leadership to unite the clinical departments at Maimonides into a functioning interdisciplinary faculty practice of more than 700 physicians.

Donna Fitzmartin has served as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital since 2000, providing executive oversight of hospital operations, ensuring safe, efficient and high-quality patient care. She partners with executive, clinical and system leadership to implement strategic initiatives, manage operational performance, ensure regulatory compliance, support workforce and labor relations and promote financial stewardship. Fitzmartin also serves as a liaison to system leadership, driving operational alignment and emergency preparedness across the organization. Under her operational leadership, the hospital achieved measurable reductions in readmissions, mortality and morbidity. Prior to her current role, she has served as a registered respiratory therapist and provided leadership in respiratory therapy services since 1988. She is also a certified health care administrator.
