Stroke Team Also Launches New Neuroscience Inpatient Unit 

Brooklyn, NY (September 23, 2020) – For the third year in a row, the Jaffe Comprehensive Stroke Center at Maimonides has been named among the top 1% of hospitals in the United States for outstanding stroke survival rates, according to a recent report from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

In addition to the superb results reported by the federal government, the Jaffe Comprehensive Stroke Center at Maimonides is also celebrating 12 consecutive years on the Get With the Guidelines – Stroke Gold Plus and Target Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll, the highest distinctions achievable by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

Led by Program Director Dr. Qingliang Tony Wang, the fully accredited Jaffe Comprehensive Stroke Center is comprised of a distinguished team of specialists working together to provide a wide range of technologically advanced diagnostic and treatment services to patients.

Dr. Wang and his extraordinary team have also achieved another major milestone: the completion of a highly anticipated Neuroscience Inpatient Unit, which is now open for patients. The renovated space includes a 12-bed stroke/neurovascular unit with three four-bedded rooms separated by sliding doors for isolation and monitoring purposes; a two-bed epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU), a six-bed neurosurgery unit and a four-bed general neurology unit. Based on clinical needs, bed assignments can be flexible, although ideally clustered based on specialties. Additionally, Maimonides will continue its mission of medical education through integration and teaching of the neurology and medicine residents on the neuroscience unit. The Maimonides stroke program is part of a joint Maimonides and SUNY Downstate Department of Neurology, led by Dr. Daniel Rosenbaum, Regional Chair, Department of Neurology.
