The multidisciplinary team was recognized at the ALA’s Annual NYC LUNG FORCE Walk
Brooklyn, NY, June 24, 2024 — On May 18, Maimonides Health was honored at the 10th Annual New York City LUNG FORCE Walk, sponsored by the American Lung Association (ALA). Specifically, Maimonides Health’s Lung Cancer Screening Program and Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Care Team were recognized as the event’s honorees, for their longstanding efforts to prevent lung cancer.
Maimonides has been a supporter of the LUNG FORCE Walk since it began in 2014. This anniversary also coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Maimonides Lung Cancer Screening Program, which has preventatively screened more than 5,000 patients for lung cancer in the last decade. The program has identified more than 70 lung cancers, mostly in the early stages at which it is most treatable.
The LUNG FORCE Walk raised more than $200,000 for research and awareness for lung cancer, which is the leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States and kills more people each year than breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer combined.
“Our team is proud to support this event every year. We are proud to partner with ALA to raise awareness and support for lung cancer,” said Jason Shaw, MD, Director of General Thoracic Surgery, Maimonides and Director of the Maimonides Lung Cancer Screening Program. “Walking is our way of recognizing and celebrating those whose lives have been affected by lung cancer and sending a message of hope to those going through it right now.”
