State-of-the-Art Equipment, Expertise of Maimonides’ Renowned Heart & Vascular Institute Now Accessible to More Patients in Brooklyn
BROOKLYN, NY (July 03, 2024) – Maimonides Health announced the grand opening of Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital’s new advanced cardiac suite. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on Monday, July 1, 2024 at 2523 Kings Highway. The program is being overseen by world-renowned Maimonides Health cardiac interventionists Dr. Jacob Shani, Chair, Cardiology and Dr. Robert Frankel, Director, Interventional Cardiology, providing rapid, unparalleled expertise to patients and the community.
“We are pleased to be able to keep high-quality and compassionate cardiovascular care close to home for those we serve. This is a really exciting time for our hospital, our community, and the patients we serve. Every minute counts when a patient has a heart attack, and now procedures that might have been performed at hospitals farther away can be done right here in Midwood. This truly signals the beginning of a new century of healthcare for our community. The new Cardiac Suite demonstrates our commitment to investing in our hospital to enhance services and meet the needs of our growing community for generation to come,” said Diana Immel, RN, Vice President, Perioperative Services, Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital.
The addition of the new cardiac facilities is a significant milestone in Maimonides’ commitment to providing exceptional cardiac care to the community. The program features cutting-edge equipment and a full spectrum of emergency and preventative cardiac services, including a state-of-the-art Cardiac Catheterization Lab, a Combination Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) & Electrophysiology Studies (EP) Lab, 128 Slice CT Scan with Cardiac Package, Nuclear and Echocardiogram Stress Testing Lab, peripheral vascular intervention and vascular procedures, Cardiac Sonography Office, and Cardiac Physician offices.
For more complex conditions, and for patients in need of urgent cardiothoracic surgery, rapid, simplified transfer to the Heart & Vascular Institute at Maimonides Medical Center is available.
This landmark cardiac offering to Brooklyn would not have been possible without the crucial support of Senator Charles Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and US Representative Yvette Clark. Due to their leadership and continued championship, Maimonides has the opportunity to save more lives from cardiovascular disease in Brooklyn.
“We are proud to celebrate the opening of the newly updated cardiac care facility here at Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “We thank all who have supported the opening of this center, and look forward to our continued commitment to advancing cardiac healthcare and providing our community with excellent patient care.”
“Along with expanded cardiac services, we recently upgraded our MRI technology, and we offer a full suite of radiology services. These advances are an investment in our community’s health,” said Barry Stern, CEO of Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital. “We are laser-focused on continuing to bring the most advanced technology, combined with a dedicated team of cardiologists, nurses, and support staff, to serve patients dealing with even the most complex conditions in a caring environment.”
