Maimonides Medical Center Recognized with 18 Clinical Achievements from Healthgrades
Brooklyn, NY – October 23, 2024 – Maimonides Medical Center announced today that it has achieved numerous accolades for clinical excellence from Healthgrades, the leading resource connecting patients with doctors or hospitals. Among Maimonides’ distinctions are three Specialty Excellence Awards, placing the hospital among the nation’s top 5% for orthopedic surgery for the fourth year in a row (2022-2025), the top 5% in prostate surgery, the top 5% in the nation for outpatient prostate care, and the top 10% in the nation for surgical care. Maimonides was also rated five stars for nine clinical services, including valve surgery, defibrillator procedures, pacemaker procedures, hip fracture treatment, pneumonia, peripheral vascular bypass, transurethral prostate resection surgery, outpatient prostate care, and diabetic emergencies.
In addition to these national recognitions, Maimonides was ranked #2 in New York state for orthopedic surgery, and #3 in the state for prostate surgery. These achievements place Maimonides in the upper echelon of hospitals for specialty care nationwide and reflect the organization’s commitment to delivering exceptional care year after year.
“We couldn’t be prouder to be entering the new year with these high honors in multiple clinical areas where our outcomes continue to be among the best in the country,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “This is an indication of success in our ever-evolving vision to improve the health of the diverse communities we serve by offering award-winning, individualized, and accessible care to everyone.”
“As we continue on with key expansions of our services to meet the needs of our community, these recognitions are a testament to our commitment to maintaining a high standard of quality of care for our patients,” said John Marshall, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Maimonides Health. “We are proud to be among the hospitals leading the way in both the state and nation for outcomes in multiple specialties. Great outcomes are our top priority, and this is a reflection our organization-wide commitment to exceptional care.”
Maimonides’ achievements are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes. As part of its 2025 hospital assessment, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide to determine the top performers in specialty care. By offering easy access to objective performance measures, Healthgrades helps consumers find and select a hospital that excels in providing the care they need.
As variation in performance among hospitals continues to grow, it is increasingly important for consumers to seek care at top-rated programs. Healthgrades’ 2025 analysis revealed that if all hospitals as a group performed similarly to five-star hospitals during the 2021-2023 study period, on average, 224,958 lives could potentially have been saved and 141,692 complications could potentially have been avoided.*
“Healthgrades commends Maimonides for their clear commitment to delivering consistently superior patient outcomes in critical service areas, including orthopedic surgery, prostate surgery, and surgical care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and head of data science at Healthgrades. “Maimonides’ leadership, expertise, and unwavering dedication to clinical excellence set a high mark for specialty care in New York state and nationwide.”
