Brooklyn, NY – (Sept. 10, 2024) – Maimonides Health announced that Eitan Dickman, MD, MMM, FACEP, FAIUM, has been named Chair of Emergency Medicine. Dr. Dickman will oversee all emergency medicine programs and initiatives, in which 60 clinicians serve more than 150,000 patients annually through Maimonides’ three emergency departments across Brooklyn.

Dr. Dickman brings more than two decades of experience in emergency medicine to the position. Since joining Maimonides in 2007, he has been essential to the health system’s provision of emergency services, and has held various leadership positions including Vice Chair for Academics, Executive Vice Chair, and Medical Director for Emergency Medicine. He led the establishment of Maimonides’ Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Division, which is now recognized nationally for its groundbreaking research, clinical innovation, and exceptional fellowship training.

A national authority in emergency medicine and advanced emergency ultrasonography, Dr. Dickman is a federally funded researcher, has published widely with a focus on point-of-care ultrasonography, and has held leadership roles with the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine. He is committed to the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows, and has received multiple teaching awards. His academic background includes a medical degree from NYU School of Medicine, a residency at Jacobi Medical Center, an emergency ultrasound fellowship at Christiana Care Health System, and a master’s degree in medical management from Carnegie Mellon University.

“We are pleased that Dr. Dickman will be our new Chair of Emergency Medicine, continuing his strong record of leadership in this department,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “Since his start here, he has led crucial development within the department, like creating the Ultrasound Division, and more recently, launching our Bay Ridge ED. There is no better leader to usher the emergency department into a new era to more effectively serve Brooklyn and create greater access to high-quality, patient-centric emergency care than ever before.”

Over the past year, as Interim Chair, Dr. Dickman has successfully overseen several transformative expansion initiatives of Emergency Department services across the Maimonides Health system, including the highly successful Bay Ridge ED.

Under Dr. Dickman’s leadership, Maimonides will continue its mission to enhance emergency care in Southern Brooklyn and ultimately quadruple our square footage for emergency care. Currently, development is underway for a new, expanded pediatric emergency department, which will become the only standalone pediatric emergency department in all of Brooklyn, a borough with over 630,000 children. Maimonides is also increasing emergency care beds for adult psychiatric patients and expanding capacity for emergency care for adult patients. With these new facilities expected to be completed in 2025 to early 2026, their creation will allow for increased space for our adult emergency department on the Maimonides Medical Center campus.

“It is an honor to be appointed as Chair of this great emergency department,” said Dr. Dickman. “I look forward to enhancing our innovative training programs, broadening our research endeavors, and expanding the clinical services we provide to the communities of Brooklyn. My passion for emergency medicine has grown alongside my commitment to the communities that we care for here in Brooklyn, and I am thrilled to be leading this next phase of growth.”
