Brooklyn, NY, Feb. 7, 2025 – John Marshall, MD, Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs & Chief Medical Officer, Maimonides Health, was named to City & State New York’s 2025 50 Over 50: The Age Disruptors List. He was recognized for his exceptional leadership across the Maimonides Health system, shaping Maimonides’ role as an essential provider of accessible care for its many patients across Brooklyn and beyond.
Dr. Marshall was among 50 individuals from across multiple sectors in the New York metro area who have committed significant time and effort toward improving the city. He was profiled in the Jan. 27 issue of City & State Magazine and honored with the award at a Jan. 30 reception at 3 West Club in Manhattan.
Board-certified in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Marshall has held a range of progressive leadership roles with Maimonides since 2002, when he joined as an attending physician in Emergency Medicine. Prior to his role as CMO, he served as Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine for 12 years, during which time he led efforts that resulted in Maimonides becoming the only certified Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center in Brooklyn, grew EMS services into the largest hospital-based, 911-participating ambulance service in New York City, established observation services, and directed the hospital’s medical operations response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As CMO, his strategic direction and leadership informs the development of clinical services, policies and procedures, and patient safety and quality improvement initiatives. Most recently, Dr. Marshall spearheaded the creation of the Maimonides Bay Ridge Emergency Department, and is a key leader in Maimonides’ long-term initiative to transform emergency care in Southern Brooklyn.
“I’m honored to be among the many notable individuals honored by City & State this year,” said Dr. Marshall. “To be able to be part of Maimonides’ mission, in a role where I am able to work each day to bring the best care to all those who need it in our community, is something I’m very grateful for.”
“Dr. Marshall is a standout clinical leader in the medical field here in New York, and I congratulate him on this well-deserved recognition,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Health. “We are consistently grateful for the more than two decades he has devoted to our patients here in Brooklyn, even in our most difficult times, and for his great leadership, especially as we continue on our path to revitalize and expand access to specialty care in Southern Brooklyn.”
