“As a parent myself, I know there is no worse moment than when your kid needs to go to the ER – and that’s what makes me so proud of what our hardworking staff have been able to achieve for their patients and families across Brooklyn,” said Ken Gibbs, CEO of Maimonides Health. “Having the only pediatric Trauma Center in Brooklyn is a privilege and a responsibility, especially when we know that a trauma center increases chances for survival by 25%. I want to extend a heartfelt thank you on behalf of the entire Maimonides family for the contributions that keep this center open and are allowing us to make it even better.”
This annual event has helped operate Maimonides Children’s hospital and raised funds for the ongoing construction of the new pediatric emergency department, which will be the first free-standing pediatric emergency department in Brooklyn.
This year’s honorees are:
- Patricia Alegre, RN – Senior Staff Nurse, Pediatric Critical Care, Maimonides Health
- Alexander Arroyo, MD – Director, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Maimonides Health
- Dolores Catania – Bravo’s Real Housewives of New Jersey
- Christopher Vanella – President, Community Electric Service Corp.
- Douglas Jablon – Executive Vice President, Community Relations & Special Assistant to the President, Maimonides Health
Since its opening in late 2016, the Maimonides Pediatric Trauma Center has seen and treated more than 2,367 children, 1,628 of whom were admitted to the Children’s Hospital. In the Children’s Trauma Center, injured children from across the borough benefit from an extensive set of facilities and personnel which integrate to deliver a system of care, 24 hours a day and seven days a week, year-round. This includes a collection of sophisticated equipment set up precisely to quickly assess, diagnose and treat immediate life-threatening injuries, including performing surgeries if need be. In addition, physicians from subspecialties like Pediatric Orthopedics, Plastic surgery, Neurosurgery, Ear Nose and Throat, and Anesthesiology for emergency operations are on-call at all times. The new pediatric emergency department will help to expand these services.
