Maimonides Heart & Vascular Institute Leads the Nation in Heart Attack Survival Rates

Brooklyn, NY (August 11, 2020) – For the third consecutive year, Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York, has been ranked among the Top 10 health systems in the country according to data published by the federal government. This prestigious distinction once again places Maimonides among an elite group of hospitals that has achieved superior survival rates.

The same report also showed that Maimonides performed better than any other hospital in the U.S. for heart attack survival.

“Maimonides Medical Center has a long history of providing exceptional patient care, and we’re thrilled to be recognized for the third year in a row for our clinical excellence,” said Kenneth D. Gibbs, President and CEO of Maimonides Medical Center. “Each year, we continue to build upon our successes in our nation-leading Heart & Vascular Institute, as well as in stroke care and many other clinical areas. We’re committed to providing the best healthcare services that Brooklyn and New York City have to offer.”

“A collaborative approach in providing the best possible care to our patients is, once again, at the forefront of everything we do,” said Dr. Jacob Shani, Chair of Cardiology at Maimonides. “Not only do we offer our patients the most advanced cardiac procedures, but we ensure that their entire multidisciplinary team is part of the process. At the Maimonides Heart & Vascular Institute, our goal is to give each and every heart a fresh new start.”

Innovative Clinical Care and Growth
Maimonides built New York City’s first Hybrid Operating Rooms, incorporating the most advanced imaging technology to support the most advanced surgical procedures. The hospital’s Robotic Surgery Program boasts some of the nation’s most experienced doctors, reducing patient risk across multiple disciplines. In addition, Maimonides’ fully-accredited Breast Center is home to an American College of Radiology designated Breast Imaging Center of Excellence.

Recently, Maimonides announced a bond financing deal that is funding the expansion of its ER, construction of a stand-alone pediatric ER on the main campus, enlargement of its neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), relocation of its state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory, and structural enhancements to its cardiothoracic intensive care unit (CTICU).

“At Maimonides, we’re proud to provide world-class healthcare services and this recognition further demonstrates that the best care is available right here in Brooklyn,” said Dr. Robert Press, Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs at Maimonides Medical Center. “We’re incredibly proud of our amazing teams who continue to go the extra mile to deliver outstanding patient care.”
