Maimonides Participates in Seven ACS Quality Programs and Is Recognized as a Top-Performing ACS National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Hospital

Brooklyn, NY, Jan. 16, 2026 – Maimonides is an American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP) Hospital and officially recognized as an ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Out of 609 U.S. hospitals participating in the ACS NSQIP adult program, Maimonides is one of 76 hospitals to achieve meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care.

In addition to current ACS national accreditations, Maimonides earned new recognitions for its commitment to high-quality care from the ACS under its Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer (NAPRC), and as a Verified Trauma Center under its Trauma Verification, Review, and Consultation (Trauma VRC) Program.

ACS NSQIP is the first nationally validated outcomes-based program to measure and improve the quality of surgical care. Participating hospitals collect data that provides in-depth analysis, helping surgical teams better understand and tailor care for patient needs. Hospitals participating in this program can reduce preventable surgical problems to achieve higher quality.

“These new recognitions from ACS are a testament to our institutional dedication to consistent efforts to improve our patients’ outcomes and our passion for delivering world-class care to the Brooklyn community,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO, Maimonides Health. “As we continue to expand the care we provide, we thank the American College of Surgeons for their guidance in reaching these important benchmarks for our patients.”

“Great things are possible when you have a great team. I could not be prouder of the Maimonides surgical team for achieving these outstanding outcomes,” says Patrick Borgen, MD, Chair of the Department of Surgery, Maimonides Health. “Being an ACS Surgical Quality Partner signifies Maimonides’ commitment to improving procedures and approaches to surgical care, while maintaining a critical eye on process at every step.”

ACS NSQIP has recognized 76 of an eligible 609 hospitals participating in the ACS NSQIP adult program for achieving meritorious outcomes for surgical patient care in 2024. ACS NSQIP-participating hospitals are required to track the outcomes of inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures, and these outcomes are then analyzed by ACS and reported back to hospitals. The results inform patient safety initiatives within the hospital and impact the quality of surgical care.

“Our ACS NSQIP-participating hospitals are committed to providing high-quality care by participating in ACS NSQIP and using that data to inform their quality improvement efforts. We are particularly proud of these Meritorious hospitals for going above and beyond by achieving optimal patient outcomes in a measurable, verifiable way, in this increasingly difficult climate,” said Clifford Y. Ko, MD, MS, MSHS, FACS, FASCRS, Senior Vice President of the ACS Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care.

This year’s new achievements join a list of existing ACS accreditations:

  • Maimonides Cancer Center’s national accreditation from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), a quality program of the American College of Surgeons
  • Maimonides Breast Center’s national accreditation under the ACS National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC)
  • Maimonides Bariatric Center’s national accreditation under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), a joint quality program of the ACS and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS)

Earlier this year, Maimonides was designated a Robotic Center of Excellence by the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC), recognizing the hospital’s commitment to high standards of patient safety and quality of care in surgical services. Maimonides remains Brooklyn’s largest center for robotic surgery, with more than 35 surgeons across multiple specialties performing more than 1,300 minimally invasive procedures annually.

Maimonides also ranks among the top 5% nationwide for orthopedic services and outpatient prostate care and among the top 10% nationwide for spine surgery and pulmonary services, according to Healthgrades’ 2026 Specialty Care Award and Rankings, in addition to earning five-star ratings for 10 specialty services.

For the fifth year in a row, Maimonides was named a “Best Regional Hospital,” by U.S. News and World Report, rankedNo. 18 in New York state and No. 19 in the New York City metro area. Also recognized as a “Best Regional Hospital for Community Access” for the second year in a row since the category’s inception, the medical center was one of 26 hospitals in New York included in the rankings and the only Brooklyn-based and safety-net hospital ranked.

The medical center was also recognized by Newsweek in its America’s Best-in-State Hospitals 2024, as the No. 19 Hospital in New York state, and the only Brooklyn-based hospital to be included.
