Annual tradition celebrates connections between Maimonides and Christian faith communities in Brooklyn
Brooklyn, NY, Dec. 11, 2025 – Maimonides Health hosted its 31st annual Celebration of Light, an event held each December to provide support for local churches. This year, 46 churches participated in the program.
Each Christmas season, churches host a tree lighting ceremony, in which parishioners dedicate Christmas trees to lost loved ones. Through Celebration of Light, support from Maimonides helps the churches purchase these trees.
“The churches represented at Celebration of Light are a critical part of the fabric that ties Brooklyn together, and we are proud to honor them through this important tradition,” said Ken Gibbs, President and CEO, Maimonides Health. “We are grateful to them for their longtime partnership in our shared mission of healing, promoting spiritual well-being, and helping us make strides in advancing the health of our community. We wish peace, joy, and good health to all those welcoming the Christmas season.”
Established in 1995, the Celebration of Light began with a donation to Visitation Monastery to help decorate their grounds for the Christmas season. Since then, the initiative has welcomed new parishes every year, with 46 churches currently participating.
