Brooklyn, NY, July 8, 2025 – Maimonides Health announced that it is the first hospital in Brooklyn to adopt the ORBEYE™ Exoscope system for use during surgical procedures. The ORBEYE 4K-3D enables the surgeon and surgical team to view high-resolution 3D anatomical digital images in detail previously not available without the use of microscope eyepieces, supporting more accurate surgeries and improved outcomes.
This groundbreaking system enables surgical teams to simultaneously view the structure of tissue such as the brain and the spinal cord, blood vessels, and other anatomical features at up to 26x magnification on a 55-inch 4K-3D monitor. The high-resolution display is more ergonomic and reduces surgeon fatigue thus improving patient safety. It also allows the entire surgical team to view procedures simultaneously, which helps facilitate teamwork, surgical training, and better anticipation of the surgical steps by the team.
“Maimonides is thrilled to be the first hospital in Brooklyn to use this state-of-the-art surgery technology, which will enable us to continue delivering excellent care,” said John Marshall, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Maimonides Health. “As the largest healthcare system in Brooklyn, a borough of 2.6 million, Maimonides is committed to investing in advanced technology in pursuit of providing the best to our community.”
“Using the ORBEYE has changed the way I operate. It decreases my mental and physical burden while performing microsurgery on delicate structures such as the brain and spinal cord,” said Roee Ber, MD, neurosurgeon, Maimonides Health. “More importantly, it allows the entire room to align, thus improving teamwork, efficiency, and safety.”
“The 3D enhanced visualization of neural and vasculature structures using the ORBEYE is unparalleled. It has significantly improved our ability to safely remove tumors and clip aneurysms through minimally invasive and open approaches,” said Christine Mau, MD, neurosurgeon, Maimonides Health. “The ergonomics have also expanded our ability to reach deep structures with relative ease.”
Available for a range of surgical specialties, the ORBEYE video microscope makes it possible to replace lens-based optics, which is especially helpful when operating on babies or the spine. Maimonides will immediately begin incorporating the technology in all neurological (brain and spine), pediatric, and other specialty surgeries for greater precision, efficiency, and patient outcomes in surgical procedures.
