Brooklyn, NY, March. 27, 2025 – Caribbean Life and Schneps Media recently honored Fabienne Gaillard Ulysse, DNP, AOCNP, MSN, ANP-BC, FAAN, Assistant Vice President of Nursing at Maimonides Medical Center, at their annual Caribbean Impact Awards.
The annual award ceremony, held on March 20 at Terrace on the Park in Queens, recognizes the achievements and contributions of outstanding individuals of Caribbean background who have created the most impact in their respective career fields—from healthcare and the arts, to advocacy, entrepreneurship, and much more. The celebrated honorees are committed to creating and framing the path for incoming immigrants and inspiring generations to come.
In addition to her role at Maimonides, Dr. Ulysse is also an adjunct assistant clinical professor at Long Island University and New York City College of Technology Schools of Nursing. She is board-certified as a nurse practitioner in adult health and is an Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner. She holds a DNP from Columbia University School of Nursing. During her training, Dr. Ulysse received an Advanced Practice Nursing Scholarship from the Oncology Nursing Society and the Doctor of Nursing Practice Award from Columbia University School of Nursing. In 2024, she was selected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing.
Dr. Ulysse is passionate about her Caribbean heritage and facilitating health care access for the people of Haiti and Haitian communities abroad, including here in Brooklyn. She is the Founder and President of Compassionate Health Ministries (COHEMI), a 501c(3) nonprofit, apolitical, faith-based humanitarian organization that provides free, safe, high-quality health care and health education to families in the United States and Haiti affected by poverty, food insecurity, and lack of access to health care. She founded COHEMI after serving as a volunteer responder with the Haiti State General Hospital and The International Medical Corps Primary Clinic after the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
“My work as a nurse and health care leader has always been about helping others, especially those who lack appropriate care, resources, and basic needs,” said Dr. Ulysse. “This award is a great honor because it is an opportunity not only to represent my Haitian heritage and its impact on my successes, but also my efforts to help Caribbean communities both here in Brooklyn and in Haiti.”
“Dr. Ulysse is an integral part of our nursing team here at Maimonides,” said Cody Legler, DNP, APRN, NP-BC, NEA-BC, Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer of Maimonides Health. “Her compassionate, community-minded approach to care is invaluable to our clinical practice and training. This honor is well-deserved and we are grateful that she shares her guidance, expertise, and leadership for the health and wellbeing of our Brooklyn community.”
