Funding will support improvements for the Pediatric Emergency Department

BROOKLYN, NY (June 7, 2024) Maimonides Health announced today that it has received a grant from the Toy Foundation, totaling just under $19,000. The grant will be used to support behavioral and mental health improvements for the new Pediatric Emergency Department. These improvements include the purchasing of additional resources to support the coping of psychiatric and behavioral health patients and families, including distribution of guidebooks that provide therapeutic activities, feelings and emotion worksheets, and more. Other supplies will include items such as weighted blankets, sensory balls, and noise protector headphones.

“We are so grateful to the Toy Foundation for their generous grant, which will help us to equip, sustain, and create a safe and therapeutic environment for our pediatric psychiatric patients and their families,” said Bettina Alonso, SVP and Chief Development Officer at Maimonides.

Maimonides was selected for this grant through a competitive submission process, and reviewed by a panel of judges assembled by the Toy Foundation. Ultimately, 20 projects at various hospitals across the country received a grant. The Toy Foundation is a non-profit children’s charity and the philanthropic arm of the Toy Association. Its mission is to be the uniting force for the collective philanthropy of the toy industry for the benefit of all children in need.
