A new imaging suite brings diagnostic technology and quicker access to imaging for patients in Brooklyn
For patients and physicians alike, the gap between ordering an imaging study and receiving results can cause frustrations, delay diagnoses, and interrupt the continuity of care that good outcomes depend on. The new Outpatient Imaging Center at Maimonides Doctors Multispecialty Pavilion (MDP) is designed to close that gap, offering most diagnostic imaging appointments in Brooklyn within one week and prioritizing timely communication of results.
Imaging technology built for diagnostic precision
Located on the third floor of the MDP at 4813 9th Avenue in Brooklyn, the imaging center comprises the full spectrum of outpatient diagnostic imaging services. X-ray and fluoroscopy capabilities provide essential baseline imaging, while two dedicated ultrasound units allow real-time evaluation of tissue and organs throughout the body.
For more complex diagnostic needs, the center’s CT scan services in Brooklyn include a dual-source scanner that produces the highest-quality cardiac CT imaging available, along with CT-based calcium scoring and low-dose lung cancer screening.
Two state-of-the-art MRI units run advanced software that cuts scanning time by 50%, with subspecialty imaging available for cardiac and prostate MRI. Mammography with tomosynthesis rounds out the suite, creating multilayered, 3D breast images that improve diagnostic accuracy over standard mammography.
Built around collaboration among care teams
Efficient imaging is only part of the equation. The MDP imaging center supports active collaboration with referring providers, with a focus on rapid delivery of results and clear communication at every step.
“Radiology works best when it’s a conversation, not a transaction,” says Steven Shankman, MD, Chair of the Department of Radiology at Maimonides Medical Center. “I want the physicians referring their patients here to know that when a study comes through our center, we’re not just reading images—we’re thinking about the clinical question they’re trying to answer and getting them what they need to make the right call.”
Beyond imaging, the MDP reduces the number of separate appointments patients need to manage since same-visit coordination is available for:
- EEGs
- EKGs and other cardiac studies
- Genetic testing
- High-risk pregnancy testing
- On-site walk-in blood draws
- Pulmonary function tests
A single address for comprehensive outpatient care
The new imaging suite is among the latest additions to the MD, which brings together more than 200 physicians across more than 35 specialty and primary care practices under one Brooklyn roof. For referring providers, that means a patient sent for imaging at the MDP can also access primary care, cardiology, neurology, OB/GYN, and a wide range of surgical specialties in the same visit.
Patients must have a physician referral before scheduling imaging services. To make an appointment or refer a patient to the Maimonides Outpatient Imaging Center, call 718-283-7101 or schedule through the MaimoCare app.
