The Maimonides Eye Institute provides routine checkups as well as specialty care for adults and children. Our staff assesses each patient’s needs and uses the most sophisticated diagnostic tools available. If we detect or suspect a vision problem in a patient, the Institute is equipped with the latest technology to treat all types of ophthalmologic problems.
The Institute’s founder and director, Norman Saffra, MD FACS has assembled a highly talented and compassionate team of ophthalmic physicians who are committed to quality eye care and trained in the latest methods of laser surgery and microsurgery.

The Eye Institute, in conjunction with our hospital’s community outreach activities, provides education to the community about eye-related topics. Through participation in the borough-wide vision-screening programs, Dr. Saffra and his staff have conducted screenings for a variety of eye issues.

Clinical studies and research
The Eye Institute is at the forefront of advancing medical science by pursuing research in eye diseases. Our ophthalmologists conduct clinical trials, including therapy for dry eyes, retinal diseases, and glaucoma. Pediatric Eye Center
The Eye Institute’s commitment to the care of our youngest members of the community can be found at our Pediatric Eye Center. This 1600 square-foot facility is outfitted with the best equipment for diagnosis and management of eye disorders in infants, children, and teenagers.
The Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is located at 4901 9th Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11219.
