Edward Chapnick, MD, Vice Chair of Medicine and Division Director of Infectious Diseases, has published a new book, COVID-19 for Dummies.  This comprehensive, jargon-free guide provides answers to basic questions about the virus, including: how it spreads, how it can be treated, how to manage long COVID, and what the future holds. Dr. Chapnick also accessibly explains risk factors and treatments, for any audience from novice to expert.

 

Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital Scores High in 2023 Leapfrog Safety Grades

Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital (MMCH) has earned a 2023 Leapfrog Safety Grade of “B.” Of the nearly 3,000 general acute-care hospitals graded by the Leapfrog Group, just 24% earned a “B” grade. Maimonides Medical Center has successfully maintained a C grade on Leapfrog amidst struggles with staffing shortages, which was a new metric evaluated in this current grade. These grades reflect our sustained performance and ongoing commitment to quality.

 

Maimonides Midwood Emergency Medicine Physician Honored by NYACEP

Errel Khordipour, DO, was recently honored as the latest recipient of the New York American College of Emergency Physicians’ Unsung Heroes in New York State Emergency Departments Award. Dr. Khordipour is an attending physician in MMCH’s Department of Emergency Medicine, and was selected for this award for his dedication to patient care, outstanding clinical abilities, positive attitude, and teaching skills.

 

 

Maimonides Internal Medicine Residents Awarded for Gastroenterology Research

Maimonides’ Internal Medicine residents presented their latest research at ACG 2023, this year’s Annual Scientific Meeting of the American College of Gastroenterology in Vancouver, Canada. Internal medicine residents Jasveen Kaur, PGY2, and Syed Mujtaba Baqir, PGY2, received the Presidential Poster Award for their poster titled “An Unexpected Finding of Cronkhite-Canada Syndrome (CCS) Mimicking Inflammatory Bowel Disease.”
