New York State requires a Health Equity Impact Assessment (HEIA) to be filed with a Certificate of Need (CON) application for construction, renovation, and other changes in service at Maimonides Health facilities, which provides information on how the project may impact the delivery of or access to the care we provide our communities. The HEIA seeks to include community feedback as well as an objective, independent assessment of the anticipated impact of the project on the public health of, delivery of, or access to hospital and health-related care for the communities we serve in Brooklyn and beyond.

Establishing a 20-bed inpatient psychiatric unit for adolescents

Maimonides Medical Center has a long tradition of providing behavioral health services to Brooklyn’s community residents. Maimonides seeks to establish a 20-bed inpatient unit for adolescent patients, ages 13 to 17, who have been diagnosed with mental health disorders, and in some cases, co-occurring substance use disorders and developmental disabilities. As per the Office of Mental Health’s September 2024 Inpatient Psychiatric Unit Bed Utilization Breakdown, there are currently only 54 child and adolescent behavioral health beds in Kings County.
