Infections can be caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses, or other pathogens contracted through people, animals, insects, or food. These can be complicated to diagnose and treat. There are dozens of infectious diseases ranging in severity and symptoms.
Most infections we develop during our lifetime are readily diagnosed by a primary physician and treated with no further intervention. However, some infections are more complex, making them difficult to identify and treat and requiring the expertise of an infectious disease specialist.
Board-certified infectious disease specialists
Infectious disease specialists are experts in identifying and treating a wide range of these conditions. Infectious Disease specialists examine these complex cases, looking for clues to identify the source of the infection and how to solve the problem. The Maimonides Infectious Disease team of board-certified specialists offers expert diagnostic and laboratory testing and treatment. Our reliable staff will also provide supervision of in-home IV antibiotics if needed.
