Support the Residents and Fellows Who Shape Our Future

At Maimonides Health, our residents and fellows are more than trainees. They are the future of medicine. Each year, we train over 3,000 residents and fellows across a wide range of specialties — and typically retain 5 to 10 percent of them to continue serving our community.

To support their growth, we’ve established seven dedicated Resident and Fellow Funds. These funds help provide the tools, training, and experiences that shape exceptional physicians, including:

  • Academic materials and clinical resources
  • State-of-the-art loupes and protective equipment
  • Research and leadership opportunities
  • Conference travel and professional development
  • Enhanced simulation labs and learning environments
  • Alumni engagement and mentorship

Each fund is led by a department chair and backed by a community of supporters committed to training tomorrow’s doctors. Explore the funds below to see how your gift can make a lasting difference.

Equipping the Next Generation of Heart Specialists

The Cardiology Resident and Fellow Fund reflects the urgency and complexity of preparing tomorrow’s cardiovascular specialists. Led by Dr. Jacob Shani, Chair of Cardiology, the fund supports a comprehensive approach to training that combines academic rigor, clinical excellence, and research advancement.

Residents and fellows are equipped to navigate the rapidly evolving world of heart health — developing the knowledge, confidence, and hands-on experience to lead in both patient care and cardiology innovation. This fund ensures they remain connected to best practices, emerging technologies, and a culture of continuous learning that defines the field.

Advancing Research for Lifesaving Innovations

The Emergency Medicine Resident and Fellow Fund, under the leadership of Dr. Eitan Dickman, Chair of Emergency Medicine, is dedicated to enhancing the future of emergency care through cutting-edge research. This fund provides residents and fellows with the resources to explore and contribute to lifesaving advancements in the field of emergency medicine. From improving patient outcomes to developing new protocols, the fund supports research that directly impacts how emergency care is delivered, saving lives and transforming the way we respond to crises. By supporting these initiatives, we are shaping the next generation of emergency medicine leaders who will drive critical advancements in this fast-paced, high-stakes field.

Investing in the Physicians Who Will Shape Tomorrow’s Healthcare

The Medicine Resident and Fellow Fund supports one of the most wide-reaching and essential residency and fellowship programs at Maimonides. Under the leadership of Dr. Matthew Weissman, Chair of Medicine, this fund enables residents and fellows to build a strong foundation in internal medicine while encouraging intellectual curiosity, cross-disciplinary learning, and patient-centered care.

Residents and fellows are trained to manage complex cases, lead with clinical integrity, and contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge. Whether they continue into subspecialty practice or remain in general medicine, this fund plays a crucial role in shaping physicians who are equipped to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities alike.

Supporting the Future of Women’s Health

The OB-GYN Resident and Fellow Fund supports the training and growth of future leaders in reproductive and maternal health. Under the guidance of Dr. Scott G. Chudnoff, Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the fund focuses on enriching the academic, clinical, and professional lives of OB-GYN residents and fellows — both during and beyond their time in training.

In addition to strengthening medical education and exposure to specialized care, this fund helps foster long-term connections between alumni and current residents and fellows. It reflects a commitment not only to technical excellence but also to mentorship, continuity, and community within the field of women’s health.

Advancing Excellence in Musculoskeletal Care

The Orthopedic Resident and Fellow Fund supports a program known for its rigor, precision, and innovation. Under the leadership of Dr. Jack Choueka, Chair of Orthopedic Surgery, the fund enables residents and fellows to pursue research, refine their surgical skills, and train with advanced tools and technologies that reflect the demands of modern orthopedic care.

Residents and fellows benefit from exposure to complex procedures, access to academic mentorship, and opportunities to share and expand their knowledge. Through this fund, we are investing in surgeons who will restore mobility, improve quality of life, and carry forward a legacy of excellence in musculoskeletal medicine.

Shaping the Future of Pediatric Care through Compassionate Learning

The Pediatric Resident and Fellow Fund, led by Dr. Jeffrey R. Avner, Chair of Pediatrics, empowers the future of pediatric care by ensuring that residents and fellows have access to exceptional training, mentorship, and educational resources. This fund is designed to support residents and fellows as they develop the knowledge, compassion, and skills needed to care for children at every stage of life. From neonatal care to adolescent health, the fund provides the critical tools and experiences that allow residents and fellows to excel in diagnosing, treating, and supporting young patients. With an emphasis on hands-on learning and expert guidance, this fund helps nurture the next generation of pediatricians who will transform the lives of children and their families.

Investing in the Tools, Training, and Growth of Tomorrow’s Surgeons

The Surgery Resident and Fellow Fund is committed to strengthening every stage of surgical training, from early education to advanced procedural experience. Led by Dr. Patrick I. Borgen, Chair of Surgery, the fund reflects a deep investment in the professional and personal development of future surgeons.

It helps residents and fellows gain access to the tools, environments, and experiences that allow them to refine their technique, stay current with advancements in the field, and pursue research that contributes to surgical innovation.
