Dr. Steven Herman is a surgeon in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Maimonides Medical Center. Dr. Herman graduated from Johns Hopkins Medical School and completed his residency and fellowship at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering. Dr. Herman holds senior academic appointments at Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai, Hackensack Meridian Health School of Medicine and SUNY-Downstate Medical School. He is active in research and has published extensively throughout his long surgical career. Dr. Herman was among the first surgeons performing advanced thoracoscopic surgery and performed the first minimally invasive VATS lobectomy in the New York Region. Dr. Herman has particular expertise in the management of lung cancer, complex chest malignancies, and neuroendocrine tumors of the chest. Dr. Herman is certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and serves on the Admissions Committee of the American College of Surgeons Brooklyn/LI district. He had been selected for the New York Times Superdoctor listing. Prior to joining Maimonides, Dr. Herman has served as Chief, Thoracic Surgery at both SUNY-Downstate/Long Island College Hospital, and Hackensack Meridian Health/Mountainside Medical Center.
