Dr. Paul C. Saunders is a board-certified cardiothoracic surgeon and Co-Director of the Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD) Program at the Maimonides Heart Vascular Center in Brooklyn, NY. He completed his general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery training at NYU Medical Center and practiced cardiac and thoracic surgery at Westchester Medical Center for five years, prior to joining Maimonides. In addition to LVADs and surgery for heart failure, Dr. Saunders performs all other types of cardiac surgery, particularly minimally invasive cardiac surgery, including coronary artery bypass grafting, valve repairs and valve replacements. He is particularly interested in heart failure surgery, implantable ventricular assist devices, and novel therapies for cardiogenic shock, such as extra-corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Dr. Saunders has published extensively in the medical literature on topics relating to cardiac surgery, and has given numerous lectures both locally and nationally.
