Lloyd B. Gayle, MD is Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery and the former site chief of the Plastic Surgical Division at Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University. Most recently, he has joined the faculty of Maimonides Medical Center assuming the roles of Chief of Plastic Surgery with a focus on breast reconstruction. Additionally, he has privileges at Hospital For Special Surgery where he is Clinical Director of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Gayle earned his medical degree at the New York University School of Medicine in New York City. He completed a residency and chief residency in general surgery at NYU/Booth Memorial Medical Center in Queens, New York. He went on to complete a residency in Plastic Surgery at New York Hospital-Cornell University Medical Center and a fellowship in Hand and Microsurgery at the Buncke Clinic at Ralph K. Davies Medical Center in San Francisco, California. Dr. Gayle is board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Diplomat of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Active in several research and clinical endeavors, Dr. Gayle has a special interest in the restoration of the breast following mastectomy utilizing the full gamut of surgical techniques currently available. These include the anatomically shaped, highly cohesive, silicone gel-filled breast implants currently being investigated at several centers throughout the country and autologous breast reconstruction utilizing microvascular techniques such as DIEP and SGAP flaps. Dr. Gayle has had articles published in several peer reviewed journals, including Annals of Plastic Surgery, Clinics in Plastic Surgery and Microsurgery. His areas of interest and research have spanned lower extremity reconstruction, including replantation, outcome evaluations in patients following breast reconstruction as well as applications for fibrin sealant. Dr. Gayle is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Royal Society of Medicine. He holds membership, in numerous other professional organizations including the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, American Association of Plastic Surgeons, and American Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, as well as several others.
