About Me

Dr. Lior Henri Fortis, MD, MHA, FACC, is a non-invasive cardiologist and cardiovascular imaging specialist at the Maimonides Heart & Vascular Institute in Brooklyn, New York, and a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University. His practice combines comprehensive clinical cardiology with advanced cardiovascular imaging and structural heart intervention imaging to provide precise, individualized care.

Dr. Fortis graduated summa cum laude from the University of Debrecen and earned a Master of Healthcare Administration from Bar-Ilan University. He completed his internal medicine residency at Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident, followed by a cardiology fellowship at Assuta Ashdod Samson University Hospital, where he served as Chief Fellow. He is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology in Israel and subsequently practiced as an attending physician in both specialties before moving to New York for advanced subspecialty training.

Within the Mount Sinai Health System, Dr. Fortis completed advanced fellowships in cardiovascular imaging at Mount Sinai Morningside and structural heart intervention imaging at The Mount Sinai Hospital. His training encompasses echocardiography, cardiac CT, cardiovascular magnetic resonance, PET, and SPECT, as well as multimodality imaging for the evaluation, planning, and guidance of complex transcatheter structural and valvular heart procedures. He joined Maimonides in July 2025.

Dr. Fortis’ academic interests include cardiovascular imaging, structural and valvular heart disease, cardiomyopathies, coronary artery disease, and outcomes research. His research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, including JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions and PLOS ONE.

A Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Dr. Fortis holds advanced certifications in cardiovascular magnetic resonance, cardiovascular computed tomography, and nuclear cardiology, and is a Testamur of the National Board of Echocardiography. He is committed to combining diagnostic precision and advanced technology with empathy, careful listening, and shared decision-making to provide compassionate, patient-centered cardiovascular care.
