About Me

Dr. Kavitha T. Ram serves as the Associate Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Maimonides Medical Center. Prior to joining Maimonides, Dr. Ram was the Director of Obstetrics and the Residency Program Director at Jamaica Hospital in Queens, NY. Previously, she served as the Director of the Women’s Ultrasound Unit at Metropolitan Hospital in Manhattan, NY, and the Associate Residency Program Director at New York Medical College in Valhalla, NY. Dr. Ram received her BS in Physics from Bryn Mawr College, and her MD in medicine from the University at Buffalo where she stayed on to complete her residency training in OBGYN. She practiced as an academic generalist in the New York City metropolitan area for several years, during which time she received a master's degree in Clinical Research Training from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx. She continued her training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, completing a subspecialty fellowship in Maternal Fetal Medicine. Passionate about education, Dr. Ram has received numerous regional and national teaching awards throughout her career. She serves as a Certifying Examiner for both the General OBGYN and Subspecialty MFM Boards. She was selected to serve on the NYC DOH Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Committee and tasked with identifying social determinants of health and eliminating disparities in maternal health care. She is an active member of SMFM, ACOG and APGO societies. Her clinical and research interests include fetal diagnosis, perinatal hospice, and the safe integration of physiological birth into the obstetrical model of care.
