Kenneth D. Gibbs

Kenneth D. Gibbs has served as President and CEO of Maimonides Medical Center since 2016 and became President and CEO of Maimonides Health in 2022. He joined the Board of Trustees in 2013, where he chaired the Strategic Planning Committee and, a year later, the full Board. Under his leadership, Maimonides has experienced significant growth. Today, he oversees a staff of more than 7,000 and an annual budget of $2 billion, helping the system deliver award-winning care to more than 320,000 patients each year across three hospitals and over 80 community practices. Prior to joining Maimonides, Mr. Gibbs spent more than 30 years in public finance, managing large-scale financing projects for public programs and facilities nationwide.

Declan Doyle
Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
Maimonides Health
Declan Doyle has served as Executive Vice President, Chief System Growth and Integration Officer, and Senior Adviser to the President since 2025. He has been with Maimonides for 24 years, holding key roles including Senior Vice President for Operations and Clinical Programs, Vice President and Assistant Vice President of Clinical Services, and Director of the Department of Radiology.
He previously served as President of St. Catherine of Siena Hospital, part of Catholic Health Services of Long Island. He is also a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives and the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
A licensed radiologic technologist, he holds a BS in healthcare management from St. Francis College and an MBA from St. Joseph’s University.
Bettina Alonso
Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer
Maimonides Health
Bettina Alonso has been the Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer at Maimonides since 2022. She brings over 25 years of international fundraising expertise spanning healthcare, banking, environmental, and religious nonprofit sectors.
She most recently served as Executive Director of Development for the Archdiocese of New York, where she led a $200 million capital campaign and raised more than $100 million annually. Prior to that, she was Executive Director of the Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation and Vice President of Development for the global environmental nonprofit Oceana.
She holds a BA in political science, an MS in international affairs, and a diploma of advanced studies from the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia.
David Cohen, MD, MSc
Executive Vice President, Population Health and Academic Affairs
Maimonides Health
Dr. David Cohen is Executive Vice President for Population Health and Academic Affairs at Maimonides Health and Chair of the Department of Population Health.
He also serves as Board Chair of the Brooklyn Health Home and Chair of the Executive Committee of Community Care of Brooklyn. Before joining Maimonides, Dr. Cohen held leadership roles at Bellevue Hospital Center and the NYC Health + Hospitals Corporation. He has also served in academic and clinical leadership positions at Mount Sinai Medical Center, the CUNY Sophie Davis Medical School, and Cleveland Metropolitan General Hospital.
He earned his BA and MD from the University of Pennsylvania and an MSc in epidemiology and health from McGill University, where he was a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar.
Douglas Jablon
Executive Vice President of Community Relations and Special Assistant to the President

Douglas Jablon has been with Maimonides Health since 1977 and has led several essential departments, including Community Relations, Volunteer and Student Services, and Chaplaincy. He founded the hospital’s Patient Relations Department, helping to enhance the patient experience and quality of care. As Special Assistant to the President, he champions culturally sensitive care and builds meaningful connections with Brooklyn’s diverse communities. He is active in local civic and religious life, serving on NYC Community Board 12, the Council of Jewish Organizations of Flatbush, and as President Emeritus of Congregation Etz Chaim of Flatbush.
He holds an MS in education from Long Island University.
Cody Legler, DNP, APRN
Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

Dr. Cody Legler serves as Chief Nursing Officer at Maimonides Health, overseeing nursing operations systemwide.
With over 15 years in nursing and healthcare administration, he most recently served as System Vice President and CNO of Perioperative Services at MedStar Health. Prior to that, he was Chief Clinical Officer at LivHOME and led its transition to a skilled nursing model. A former President of the Maryland Organization of Nurse Leaders, Dr. Legler has taught nursing leadership and policy at Marymount University since 2019. He continues to practice as an Adult Nurse Practitioner at a Federally Qualified Health Center.
He holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice from The George Washington University and an MSN from Marquette University and is board-certified in multiple specialties.
John Marshall, MD, MBA
Executive Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer

Dr. John Marshall has been with Maimonides since 2003, serving in key roles including Chair of Emergency Medicine, Residency Program Director, and Vice President of Medical Affairs. He led efforts to establish Maimonides as Brooklyn’s only certified Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center, expanded EMS services into the largest hospital-based 911-participating system in NYC, and launched the Bay Ridge Emergency Department. He played a central role in the hospital’s COVID-19 medical operations and developed numerous educational and fellowship programs.
He is a member of the American Board of Emergency Medicine’s Board of Directors, an editor and author in the field, and a Professor of Emergency Medicine at SUNY Downstate. A decorated U.S. Air Force veteran, he served in Afghanistan with a Critical Care Aeromedical Transport Team.
Robert Palermo
Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Robert Palermo is a seasoned financial executive with over three decades of experience, including 13 years in public accounting and 22 years in healthcare finance. At Maimonides, he is responsible for all finance-related operations.
He has held senior leadership roles at One Brooklyn Health System and Hackensack Meridian Health, overseeing areas such as revenue cycle, reimbursement, managed care, and financial reporting.
A Certified Public Accountant, he holds a BS in accounting from Rutgers University.
Hugo Pizarro
Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

Hugo Pizarro brings over 20 years of experience in healthcare HR leadership to his role at Maimonides. In his role, he drives initiatives in workforce planning, talent acquisition, labor relations, and DEI.
He previously served as Chief People Officer for the MTA, leading HR operations for over 70,000 employees. His background includes leadership roles across hospitals, homecare, and post-acute care organizations. A certified Senior HR Professional, he is an active contributor to panels and publications in healthcare HR.
Mr. Pizarro holds an MS in industrial and labor relations from Baruch College and a BS in management from Manhattan College.
Steven Sakovits
Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Steven Sakovits has more than 35 years of healthcare IT experience, including 25 years in executive leadership. He previously served as CIO at Stamford Health and as VP of Information Technology at Meridian Health. For 14 years, he was CIO at Healthfirst Inc. Mr. Sakovits has led major initiatives in healthcare cybersecurity, software architecture, and IT strategy. He has served on the boards of Healthfirst NJ and Linxus and held advisory roles with Care Support America.
He earned a BS in computer science and a minor in business administration from William Paterson University.
Barry Stern
President and CEO
Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital
Barry Stern has led Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital as President and CEO since 2014, overseeing a period of growth, expanded services, and integration into Maimonides Health.
He previously served as CFO at Long Beach Medical Center and Executive Vice President/Chief Financial Officer at Maimonides Medical Center. He also co-founded a healthcare consulting firm serving the New York metro area. A lifelong Brooklyn resident, Mr. Stern is a board member and finance chair at Ohel Children’s Home and Family Services.
He is a Certified Public Accountant with a BS and MBA from New York University.
Laurie Weinstein
Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer

Laurie Weinstein is an accomplished legal executive with 40 years of experience in healthcare law. She has served as Chief Legal Officer since 2022 and previously held general counsel roles at the Permanente Medical Group, Mid-Atlantic Permanente, and Steward Health. Earlier in her career, she served as Deputy General Counsel at Beth Israel Deaconess and UMass Memorial Health Care. She specializes in corporate transactions, governance, regulatory matters, and healthcare compliance.
Ms. Weinstein holds a JD from Suffolk University Law School and a BA from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
