WIC can help your family eat well and stay healthy
The Maimonides WIC Program can help your family get a healthy start. A federally funded, state-run program, WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) supports pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children under age 5. Services are free, and it’s easy to apply.
What WIC provides
Nutrition support
- Money to buy nutritious food like fruit, vegetables, milk, eggs, and more
- Nutrition education focused on your family’s needs
Breastfeeding support
- Learn from breastfeeding experts and moms like you with breastfeeding experience
- Free breast pumps as needed
- Larger food packages for participants who breastfeed
We also provide referrals to other helpful services. From pregnancy until your child’s 5th birthday, WIC is here for your growing family.
Who is eligible for WIC?
You may qualify for WIC if you:
- Live in New York State
- Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or had a baby within the last 6 months
- Have a child under 5 years old
- Meet income limits (you can be working and still qualify)
Every eligible family can be certified for WIC regardless of immigration status. You can also receive WIC even if you and/or other household members are working.
Dads, grandparents, and other primary caregivers can apply for children in their care. Working families can qualify too.
What to expect from our WIC program
WIC makes it easy for busy families to participate. Your first appointment is in person, but after you’re enrolled, you can choose in-person appointments at our WIC office or phone appointments from home. We also offer online nutrition education resources, so you can access recipes, information about healthy eating, and meal planning tips at your convenience.
New York State issues eWIC cards, which you use like a debit card to buy program-approved foods and formula:
- Shop for your WIC foods using your eWIC card. Benefits are added remotely.
- Swipe your card at the register to buy fruit, veggies, cereal, beans, and more.
- Buy food when it works best for you. Be sure to use all your benefits before the end of your 30-day benefit cycle.
- Save your card! You will reuse it each month.
