Support the Residents Who Shape Our Future

At Maimonides Health, our residents are more than trainees. They are the future of medicine. Each year, we train over 3,000 residents across a wide range of specialties — and typically retain 5 to 10 percent of them to continue serving our community.

To support their growth, we’ve established five dedicated Resident Funds in Surgery, OB-GYN, Orthopedics, Cardiology, and Internal Medicine. These funds help provide the tools, training, and experiences that shape exceptional physicians, including:

  • Academic materials and clinical resources

  • State-of-the-art loupes and protective equipment

  • Research and leadership opportunities

  • Conference travel and professional development

  • Enhanced simulation labs and learning environments

  • Alumni engagement and mentorship

Each fund is led by a department chair and backed by a community of supporters committed to training tomorrow’s doctors. Explore the funds below to see how your gift can make a lasting difference.

Invest in the Tools, Training, and Growth of Tomorrow’s Surgeons

The Surgery Resident Fund is committed to strengthening every stage of surgical training, from early education to advanced procedural experience. Led by Dr. Patrick Borgen, Chair of Surgery, the fund reflects a deep investment in the professional and personal development of future surgeons.

It helps residents gain access to the tools, environments, and experiences that allow them to refine their technique, stay current with advancements in the field, and pursue research that contributes to surgical innovation. Whether in the operating room, simulation lab, or academic setting, this fund ensures residents have what they need to rise to the challenge and lead with skill and precision.

Support the Future of Women’s Health

The OB-GYN Resident Fund supports the training and growth of future leaders in reproductive and maternal health. Under the guidance of Dr. Scott Chudnoff, Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology, the fund focuses on enriching the academic, clinical, and professional lives of OB-GYN residents — both during and beyond their time in training.

In addition to strengthening medical education and exposure to specialized care, this fund helps foster long-term connections between alumni and current residents. It reflects a commitment not only to technical excellence but also to mentorship, continuity, and community within the field of women’s health.

Advancing Excellence in Musculoskeletal Care

The Orthopedic Resident Fund supports a program known for its rigor, precision, and innovation. Under the leadership of  Dr. Jack Choueka, Chair of Orthopedic Surgery, the fund enables residents to pursue research, refine their surgical skills, and train with advanced tools and technologies that reflect the demands of modern orthopedic care.

Residents benefit from exposure to complex procedures, access to academic mentorship, and opportunities to share and expand their knowledge. Through this fund, we are investing in surgeons who will restore mobility, improve quality of life, and carry forward a legacy of excellence in musculoskeletal medicine.

Equipping the Next Generation of Heart Specialists

The Cardiology Resident Fund reflects the urgency and complexity of preparing tomorrow’s cardiovascular specialists. Led by Dr. Jacob Shani, Chair of Cardiology, the fund supports a comprehensive approach to training that combines academic rigor, clinical excellence, and research advancement.

Residents are equipped to navigate the rapidly evolving world of heart health — developing the knowledge, confidence, and hands-on experience to lead in both patient care and cardiology innovation. This fund ensures they remain connected to best practices, emerging technologies, and a culture of continuous learning that defines the field.

Invest in the Physicians Who Will Shape Tomorrow’s Healthcare

The Medicine Resident Fund supports one of the most wide-reaching and essential residency programs at Maimonides. Under the leadership of Dr. Matthew Weissman, Chair of Medicinee, this fund enables residents to build a strong foundation in internal medicine while encouraging intellectual curiosity, cross-disciplinary learning, and patient-centered care.

Residents are trained to manage complex cases, lead with clinical integrity, and contribute to the advancement of medical knowledge. Whether they continue into subspecialty practice or remain in general medicine, this fund plays a crucial role in shaping physicians who are equipped to meet the evolving needs of patients and communities alike.
