The anniversary celebration honors Brooklyn’s first and only full-service breast care facility and the over 228,000 women who have received treatment to date

Maimonides Medical Center celebrated the 10-year anniversary of their elite Breast Center, which now also includes the Erminia Rivera Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. The Maimonides Breast Center and Breast Imaging Center are among only 5% of centers nationwide to earn full accreditation for meeting the highest standards for breast disease care, performing breast cancer screenings and providing diagnosis, treatment, counseling, and a full array of support services for patients and their families — all under one roof. The Breast Center was awarded a full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), administered by the American College of Surgeons.

The Maimonides Breast Center sees more than 22,000 patient visits per year, and in 10 years of operation has treated approximately 228,000 women and diagnosed over 5,000 new breast cancer patients.

The Erminia Rivera Breast Imaging Center of Excellence was the first Brooklyn-based program accredited by the American College of Radiology — and remains at the forefront in multiple areas of breast screening, diagnostic imaging, and advanced image-guided biopsy.

The Breast Center is a division of the Maimonides Cancer Center — one of only two facilities in New York State — and only 22 facilities nationwide — to earn an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons for achieving a perfect score in all evaluation categories.

The world-class Cancer Center provides the full continuum of cancer treatments and supportive care services, integrating multidisciplinary care with cutting-edge research and breakthrough technologies. Led by Dr. Patrick Borgen, Maimonides Chair of Surgery and Director of the Breast Center, the multidisciplinary teams of oncologists, surgeons, radiologists, clinicians and support staff collaborate to offer patients every significant advantage in their battles against breast disease.

“Today is a momentous day for our incredibly hard-working and dedicated team at Maimonides Breast Center,” said Dr. Patrick Borgen, Maimonides Chair of Surgery and Director of Maimonides Breast Center. “Our staff, from doctors to nurses to administrative workers, have made it possible to treat over 200,000 women from New York City and beyond, helping our patients detect breast cancer early and receive nothing less than the highest level of care.”

“When women come to Maimonides Breast Center, they can rest assured that our world-class team is working tirelessly to detect, diagnose, and treat cancer with patient care and comfort as our top priority,” said Dr. Donna Marie E. Manasseh, Director of Breast Surgery at Maimonides Breast Center. “Our 10 years serving Brooklyn are a testament to the highly-accredited care we deliver to our patients, and the pride we take in helping women live long, healthy lives.”

The Maimonides Breast Center is housed in the state-of-the-art Gilbert Rivera Pavilion, a unique setting that reinforces the spirit of hope and healing, ensuring the most positive patient experiences.
