Dr. Vijay Shetty is currently the Associate Chief Academic Officer and Vice Chairman in the Department of Medicine at Maimonides Medical Center, overseeing the clinical and administrative operations in the Division of Inpatient Medicine. He is also a Professor of Clinical Medicine at SUNY Downstate in addition to his roles as Director of Undergraduate Education and Consultant Cardiologist at Maimonides Medical Center. Under his leadership, he has been able to restructure the Division of Inpatient Medicine and successfully implement strategies to reduce patients' length of stay, enhance communication amongst physicians and improve the educational experience in the residency program. Dr. Shetty earned his MBBS degree at JSS Medical College, India in 2000 then completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, India from 2000-2002. He then completed his residency in Internal Medicine and Chief Residency and Fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at Maimonides Medical Center between the years of 2003-2010. In 2004, during his second year of residency, he founded the Physical Diagnosis Club at Maimonides which serves to resurrect the dying art of physical diagnosis. He served as the Deputy Assistant Dean and Site Director for the clerkship and sub-internship at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine at its Maimonides Medical Center campus from 2010-2017. He also completed his master's degree in Healthcare Administration at the William E. Simon Business School, University of Rochester in 2016. Awards and Honors: Dr. Shetty has been the recipient of many honors throughout his medical career. These include: Fellow Teacher of the Year, 2008-9, Department of Medicine, Maimonides Medical Center. - Teacher of the Year, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15, Department of Medicine, Maimonides Medical Center - Samuel M. Rosen Outstanding Teacher Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching, 2014, Albert Einstein College of Medicine. - Faculty Inductee into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Medical Society, 2017, Albert Einstein College of Medicine - Inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma International Honors Society, 2017, William E. Simon Business School, University of Rochester Dr. Shetty has authored/co-authored more than 70 contributions to medical literature. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the American Society of Echocardiography. He currently chairs and serves in several committees at Maimonides Medical Center such as the LOS Committee, the CHF 30-day Readmission Task Force, the Sepsis Core Group Committee, the CLABSI/CAUTI Committee, the Medical Matters Committee, the Complex case Management Committee, the Rapid Response Committee, the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, the Clinical Oversight Committee, the Student Education Committee and more in order to implement key departmental policies and initiatives.
