Dr. Penina Burnstein is a board-certified dermatologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She treats a wide range of dermatologic conditions in weekly clinics while also overseeing the education and training of medical students and residents.
Dr. Burnstein earned her MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons after completing a BA in biochemistry from Barnard College. She went on to complete a dermatology residency at SUNY Downstate, preceded by a research fellowship that culminated in her receiving the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and Oncology Young Investigator Award. She has presented posters and lectured on topics including allergic contact dermatitis, genodermatoses, and dermatologic considerations in lactating mothers. She also authored a chapter on genodermatoses in the Saunders Manual of Pediatric Practice. Dr. Burnstein is a recipient of the JOWMA Outstanding Community Achievement Award.
Her clinical expertise spans the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails—including acne, alopecia, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, seborrheic dermatitis, sun-induced lesions, and skin cancer, as well as cutaneous fungal, bacterial, and viral infections.
