Dr. John D. Andersen is the Chief of Gynecologic Pathology and an Assistant Professor at SUNY-Downstate College of Medicine. He is dual board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. He comes to Maimonides Medical Center from Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he completed a fellowship in Gynecologic Pathology. Prior to his fellowship training, Dr. Andersen served in the U.S. Army for eight years, where he obtained the rank of Major. He was previously the Chief of Clinical Pathology at Brian Allgood Army Hospital at Camp Humphreys in South Korea, and Chief of Clinical Pathology at Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He completed his residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and received his medical degree from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine.nnDr. Andersen graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in Genetics and Microbiology. Dr. Andersen's research interests include mechanisms of tumor pathogenesis with a focus on ovarian carcinomas; immunohistochemical quality control applications; and ovarian cancer biomarker identification and characterization.
