New Psychiatric Emergency Department Opens
Pictured above. On July 24, Maimonides Health officially unveiled its new Psychiatric Emergency Department (ED). With nearly fourtimes more space, the newly expanded Psychiatric ED provides a safe and private environment distinct from the general emergency department, uniquely suited for patients experiencing mental health crises. U.S. News: Maimonides Named ‘Best Regional Hospital,’ High Performing in 16 Areas
For the fifth year in a row, Maimonides was named a “Best Regional Hospital” by U.S. News & World Report, and a “Best Regional Hospital for Community Access” for the second year in a row. The medical center was also rated high performing in 16 adult specialties, procedures, and conditions and Maimonides Midwood Community Hospital was recognized for high performance in 3 procedures and conditions. Maimonides is the only safety-net hospital and only standalone Brooklyn hospital recognized this year. Read more.
Stroke Center Receives Highest Quality Designation from American Heart Association
For the 17th year in a row, the Jaffe Comprehensive Stroke Center at Maimonides has been nationally recognized for outstanding clinical excellence by the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® awards (2008-2025). Awards include Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus: the highest-level recognition a hospital can receive from the AHA for fast and effective stroke care, as well as Target: Stroke Elite Plus Honor Roll; Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll; and Target: Stroke Advanced Therapy Honor Roll.

Maimonides Neurosciences Institute, Brooklyn Neuroscience Center at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, and SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University Department of Neurology jointly present the 2025 Maimonides Neurology Symposium. Maimonides Emergency Medicine Featured in CNN Special on Pain Management

Dr. Sanjay Gupta, chief medical correspondent for CNN, recently visited Maimonides Medical Center to report on opioid optimization in emergency care pain treatment, a pioneering program led by Sergey Motov, MD, emergency medicine physician and research director at Maimonides. The report explored non-opioid methods of analgesia, like nerve blocks, ketamine treatments, and more, and how Maimonides is reframing an approach to opioid prescription as the last resort for pain, instead of the first. 3rd Annual Maternal & Neonatal Morbidity Reduction Symposium
Maimonides’ 3rd Annual Maternal & Neonatal Morbidity Reduction Symposium was held on Sept. 9. This annual event—sponsored by the NYS Department of Health through the Regional Perinatal Center at Maimonides—brings together clinicians, researchers, and thought leaders to explore innovative solutions in perinatal health. This year’s theme was “Rethinking the Familiar: New Therapies for Perinatal Challenges.”
