Addiction treatment in Brooklyn

Substance use disorders are more common than most people realize, and recovery is possible. They affect about one in six people at some point in their lives. Seeking help is a sign of strength, and at Maimonides Health, we meet every person who walks through our door without judgment, with complete confidentiality, and with a team genuinely invested in their recovery.

At Maimonides, our Addiction Treatment Services program provides individualized, evidence-based care in a supportive setting—in the Brooklyn community where you live and work. Whether you’re ready to take your first step or looking for continued support, our clinical team is here to help.

For adults ages 18 and up, we treat all substance use disorders including alcohol, opioids, stimulants, pills, and cannabis. Many patients have more than one substance use disorder, and many also live with depression, anxiety, trauma, or other mental health conditions. We treat the whole person—not just one diagnosis.

What if I have addiction and a mental health condition?

You’re not alone. Having a substance use disorder or being diagnosed with a mental health condition often influence each other. Addressing only one of them rarely leads to lasting recovery.

Our program is designed to treat both at the same time. You’ll work with licensed clinicians who understand the relationship between mental health and substance use. Your care plan will reflect the full picture of what you’re experiencing. You don’t have to navigate separate programs or repeat your story to different teams. Everyone involved in your care works together.

How we treat addiction

Addiction treatment isn’t one-size-fits-all. We use approaches that research has shown to work, and we tailor them to where you are and what you need.

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT)

CBT is a form of talk therapy that helps you recognize the thoughts, feelings, and situations that contribute to substance use. Through CBT, you can develop practical strategies to respond differently. Many patients find that the skills they build in CBT stay with them long after treatment ends.

Motivational interviewing

Motivational interviewing is another form of talk therapy that helps you find the motivation to make positive behavior changes. This counseling approach uses techniques like open-ended questions, affirmations, and reflective listening, focusing on empathy and collaboration to help empower you in your recovery journey.

Medication-assisted treatment (MAT)

MAT pairs FDA-approved psychiatric medications—including long-acting injectable medications (LAIs)—with counseling to reduce cravings, ease withdrawal, and support long-term recovery. MAT has strong evidence behind it, particularly for opioid and alcohol use disorders. Our clinicians can help you understand whether MAT is right for your situation.

Individual and group therapy with licensed professionals

Clinical social workers, all licensed and with specialized training in addiction, deliver care through both individual and group sessions. Both the individual therapy and groups focus on developing skills including distress tolerance, relapse prevention, lifestyle change, and self-care.

Your team reviews your treatment plan regularly and adjusts it as you make progress.

What to expect

You don’t need a referral to get started. About 40% of our patients come to us on their own.

You can call directly at 718-283-7800

Your first visit includes a clinical assessment to understand your history, your goals, and the support systems you have in place. From there, you and your care team will build a treatment plan together.

We provide services on an outpatient basis, which means you come in for scheduled appointments and return home the same day. This approach makes it easier to stay connected to your family, your work, and your daily life while in treatment.

We offers three weekly group meetings:

  • Relapse Prevention Skills: Tuesdays 11:00 am–12:00 pm
  • Triumph over Trauma (Women’s Group): Wednesdays 3:00–4:00 pm
  • Relapse Prevention Skills: Thursdays 3:00–4:00 pm

Meet our team

Our addiction treatment team includes board-certified addiction psychiatrists and licensed clinical social workers, all focused on helping you move toward recovery.

For referring providers

Approximately 60% of our patients come to us through physician referrals. We welcome the opportunity to partner with primary care providers, internists, and specialists across all disciplines. Our integrated model means your patients with co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders receive coordinated, evidence-based substance abuse treatment without navigating multiple programs or providers on their own.

We see most people within 10 days of the referral.
